I’d take him over and pull him out late if it’s wet and play Pedlar forward
Good call. And I don't want to hear 'he hasn't been our best in the 2's'. If we have any designs on Peds playing a role for us going forward, this is the sort of game he should be brought in for (assuming he's fit, which he is).

Also, I think Brayden Maynard is a little scare of him. So there's that also.

Tex will kick 5 goals against Frampton this week, Darcy Moore has taken the week off because he is scared of playing on him.

Any word on Tex getting rested this week? Seems like a good game to get his body right with 5 games until the bye.

Burgo was very open about players playing through niggles. Remember when Talia went down like someone shot him..... torn hamstring, off the bone, blah blah... played the following week. I think he knew we had a few "softies" in the side and wanted to iron that out of us. But this just means we've swung too far the other way and now when it's clear the player could do with a rest, we are loathe to do it.

It's an urban myth that it's as simple as Burgess saying players should play through injuries. What he said is that the way to reduce players missing through injury is to continue to force them to continue to train at high intensity so that the benchmark for 'injury' is elevated. What we continue to do is nurse our players through the week hoping that they can put their hand up come selection. This is the opposite of Burgess' philisophy on playing with injury, his requires training at high intensity to show you can play with the injury/niggle that you have.

Nicks on Charlie Edwards' form in the SANFL & getting a game."He was fantastic on the weekend— a step above where he had been.

"There are a lot of guys that, at the moment, they're walking into my office and bashing that door down and saying, 'Hey, what does it take?'

"My response to those guys is just, keep being there and being ready.

"If our team performs, we get a result we're after, and guys are playing their roles, it's pretty hard to change that. You've got a group of guys that are getting it done, and they're building cohesion throughout that.

"However, there is a certain level of performance that just says, 'Okay, you have to bring me in.'""He's getting close to that now, as are a number of others."

Injury he means injury - nothing less than an injury

"and they're building cohesion throughout that" Why can't he just say he doesn't want to lose any continuity credits.

Resting a few players as Collingwood did against Fremantle also means you can throw a bone to the Charlie Edwardses, who are bashing the door down in the reserves as Nicks describes it.

I doubt we'd feel comfortable enough to do that though, in terms of making the eight.

Don't forget that we're 'building cohesion', we can't risk undoing that. That's why we don't rest players, first of all it's not building cohesion and then there's selection integrity and then there's respecting the opposition.

He obviously wasn't talking about the critical last 15 minutes of last weeks game
🙄

Amazingly with such poor coaching and selection this season we’ve sat inside the top 6 all season after 9 rounds, are the highest scoring team, are the best ball movement team, have a back 6 starting to get widespread praise and have neutrals excited to watch our games.

I am frequenting this board a lot less these days because it’s just so hard reading the same debates over and over and negativity even after a classic Showdown win!

The team is a Rankine free kick away from equal 1st after nearly half a season and yet this board reads like it’s still 2024.

Thats why he is easy to dislike.

lol, because we’ve got issues, main one being the coach. Second is midfield.

Tell us BACCS, were you happy with the last 13 mins when because we went defensive we almost blew a lead against a team outside of the 8 missing forwards? Had they taken their chances we lose, pure and simple.

What about the job on Rozee and Butters?

Our midfield getting smashed?

Losing clearances and contested balls?

Or is your level of football support “yay we won”

Oh and as for Rankines mark/free, we were a Rioli DM from losing the Showdown.

As for our record, look who we’ve beaten, one top 8 team.

I would say if Keane drops that mark, Power would have scored a goal.

Nicks would have been under the blowtorch this week.
He didn’t drop the mark though, so it’s a fairly irrelevant point. Big games can be decided by moments and that Showdown will be forever defined by the Keane mark.

This is the kind of shallow analysis I dont like

Yes we won and we won a showdown but the same issues that have plagued us for years are still there

I want a dynasty squad and I dont think Nicks brings that - he is ( my opinion) 2 years behind having a dynasty team and I dont think he ever will

Sounds good

Mine is looking like
1. Fly Into Melbourne Sat Morning
2. Get to the G then do the guard of honour
3. Watch us take the W
4. Fly home with the team Sat Night
5. Travel Hours To Get Home After

Mine is
1. Walk 4mins to the train
2. Top up Myki
3. 17min ride to Richmond station
4. Walk to the G
5. Have a pre-game drink in the MCC and be better than 95% of the crowd
6. Celebrate a 67 point win

I’ve been pretty critical of Nicks over the last couple of years

But I think it’s probably okay to acknowledge what we’re doing well, as well as what we’re not doing well as a team. Yeah going defensive was shit, but our defence did damn well to restrict them to what they scored from so many I50s

Yeah our mids couldn’t get their hands on the ball, but I think that was just Dawson and Soligo having shockers (and Rankine not really impacting in the middle), rather than any tactical problems

Record against top 8 teams is 1-2, not great so far but there’s green shoots + room to improve. Whether we do improve (mainly tactically) is another question, admittedly

I shared a more detailed analysis earlier from a neutral that analyses the game well and every stat about our season would refute your second sentence, but if you feel this way then that's fine.

Careful. You’ll be labeled a sycophant and a happy clapper…

TBF Nicks couldn't do much about the Milera kick into the corridor - which would've likely been against all instructions at that point, and then Laird's idiotic scoop.
