I'm another who thinks we need two to replace Sandi especially with Apeness still building from injury.

Out: Sandi, Ballantyne or DPearce (gotta lose someone for the extra tall), Hill, MJ

In: Apeness, Nads/Jones, Giro, Duman/ Kersten

Stupidly tall and immobile forward 6 but so sick of the same plan.

Cox, McCarthy, resting ruck with Matera, Cerra, Walters/Banfield/Mundy rotating

Leave Fyfe midfield.

Absolutely expect only one ruck to be chosen and Ballantyne and MJ to hold their spots.

The obvious changes are Hill and Sandilands for Apeness and Giro.

Hopefully Duman for Johnson too.
I think this is exactly what will happen.

Johnson (managed) IMO.

I think both Apeness and Nads both need to come in both can play forward and both can share the ruck duties. Apeness has missed a lot of footy and will be stuffed by quarter time will need more support than just Cox
Giro in for Hill

I agree but I don't reckon that is how Ross/MC will see it. Also would expect it to be Ape and Jones rather than Nads, despite the fact that Nads seems to have better form.

Couldn’t agree more - but no, it’s not going to happen.

OUT: D Pearce, Johnson, Sandilands (inj), S Hill (inj)
IN: Giro, Kersten, Apeness, Duman
I agree the above changes make sense. Im thinking the three changes below are near certainties
Kersten for Johnson (Managed)
Giro for S.hill
Apeness for Sandy

Duman for D>Pearce also a decent chance after Lyon's comments in the presser about playing youth. Im really hoping Giro is a massive surprise packet in the game.

I can see it going

Still have to be careful to get the balance right between youth and experience, what annoys me is that the guys who
We should be getting games into, Hughes, Nyhius, Duman, even Kersten don't get continuity.
Yet we surround them with Balla, Johnson, D Pearce, who are all finished after this year.
This and their best position? Blakey has plateaued, Crowden is not a small forward.
Playing the youth card only works for so long, didn't work for Neesham, Harvey, it is a result driven industrial.

I reckon his kicking has been good this year for the most part

Interesting. Personally, I think he's one of our worse ball users in our 22 and shouldn't be anywhere near the back line, nor should he be on the end of handball receives. Should be playing inside mid, getting his hands dirty winning clearances, like he was in his debut year, which was surely the reason why we drafted him.

It’s all part of Ross’s plan me thinks

His ball use by foot has improved massively from when he was drafted thanks to his half-back apprenticeship, but agree it's time to get him out of the bloody backline

He was given a more than fair go last season - mostly at the expense of a genuine key forward in Taberner - and wasn't up to the job.

Nobody needs to watch him not take contested marks for any more games to know that he's not a key forward. If we have a vacancy in another role then we will probably give him a try there. Most likely he will replace Michael Johnson if we go full double-down rebuild.

The reason he was dropped is pretty straightforward. We were trying to play him as a key forward, but he wasn't any good at it. He's an undersized leading forward who's competing with McCarthy for the 1 spot we have for that kind of player.

The real question is why he was picked for Round 1 at all when everyone already knew these things. But the answer to that is probably (sadly) just age profile, since we apparently tried to pick our oldest and most experienced possible team in round 1 for some reason.
I agree that Kirsten isn't a key forward. You don't need to be a big forward to kick goals every week. To be honest, you could of Fitted all 3 of Tabs, Kersten and Cam in the Forward line all season and you would of got mixed results.

Strange leaving tabs at Peel for all of last season despite him kicking 41 goals for peel. As I said I assumed Kersten would of got a few freo games this season because of his strengths in his marks on leads and Set shots on goal.

You could Probably fit all 3 in the forward line now even with the amount of small forwards we have on our list. I personally hope Shane Kersten gets a good run of dockers games up forward in the 2nd half of the season. We haven't fixed up our forward line structure, so I hope he is a chance to get in.

Well there you go. I do remember him missing a few that game but he did take a few grabs. In saying that i dont feel there is much point at all in playing him forward and would much rather him settle in the the back 6 as this is where he will carve out his career and be the most beneficial.
Logue is a weird one isn't he? The guy is 193cm and 90-95 kg.

the guy can play in multiple areas in the ground but isn't a stand out in either of them. You cold make him as a 3rd tall in the back line. I would of put him in the mundy role in the forward flank.

But why would you?

We would structure up better with Taberner/Cox/McCarthy than we would with Taberner/Kersten/McCarthy.

IMO McCarthy and Kersten are fighting over the same spot. Playing both of them together is just not a good structure.

Speaking of forwards, just randomly, what is your opinion of McCarthy at the moment?

He's been fairly ordinary, but a fair part of the reason for that is that he's still being played as a key forward when he's really a 3rd tall. I think he'd be a lot more productive in a forward line with Taberner and Cox in it, and obviously a forward line with 6 people in it where he's not being double teamed.

Like I said, I think McCarthy and Kersten are both not real key forwards, they are basically competing for the 1 spot. But as long as we fail to pick 2 key forwards, the output from either will be down on what it could be.

A big part of the forward puzzle is our horrible delivery inside 50.
Part poor forward play/movement but piss poor disposal by all of our mids and half backs kicking into the empty paddock that is our forward line.
FWIW I reckon McCarthy is having a crack, he just isn’t or meant to bea contested marking forward beast.
He will go off when we get the balance right and a big unit takes the heat off him from being the primary target.

In : Apeness, Stradnica, Duman, Giro.
Out: Sandilands, Johnson, D.Pearce, S Hill

Will Apeness will blow up if he plays more than 60% game time?
Rotate Stradnica and Cox to help off the bench and forward. Grundy will annhilate our rucks, but if we tried something different (please Ross) and rotated three 2 on ground one off it may keep him guessing??
Giro to replace D. Pearce and add pace - same for S Hill - Duman

I completely understand why Apeness would come in if Sandi misses, but it just makes me face palm why we're using him as more of a ruck than a forward. If Ape is fit enough, which is a big if given he hasn't been able to get on the park for too long without injuries, then put him in the forward line, it's obvious we need him there
Ross on 6PR last night said Apeness wasn't a forward
