Not sure it's been raised on here, but why not give Draper the same kind of HB role both Daicos and Sheezel were given in their first years? Surely Milera or Nank can currently be dropped based on form. Nank with a whopping 72m gained........................................


I just feel like there's enough experience back there at the moment, particularly with Hinge and Laird, that we can take the risk.

I think we’re philosophically against developing mids off half back. Our greatest champions of the club did it, but somewhere along the line we wrote a rule that it is not the way it’s done. Nank has been playing mostly wing, not off half back.

We're doing exactly that with Edwards...............in the twos.

I don't think that's the correct path for Draper, though. He should play midfield when he comes in, with possible rests at HF.
He's a bit chancy for HBF and might end up Nicksed if he goes there.

Reckon that's a chance if Tex doesn't rest, which I doubt he will. Can see Berry in and one or both Taylor and Curtin out or into sub. Draper or Pedlar to come in.

Those two are good examples of star midfield recruits being started at HB.
However, this discussion has got a bit tangential when bringing in star midfielders in maturity who weren't actually drafted as midfielders, e.g., Goodwin who was a raking left-foot flanker, etc., etc.

Lets stick to whether high picks drafted as midfielders should be played at HB in AFL.
