The biggest shake my head moment of yesterday wasn't on field, it was off.
The commentary team including Kelli Underwood spent half the pregame commentary around how Taylor Walker was out, and good old Kelli during the game goes on to commentate that Walker had a mark and was going to have a kick at goal.
She is the poster child.for DEI
Fox really showed what they thought of this matchup with the four commentators they scheduled for it. The four worst of the worst.

Ugly: Soligo’s fall from grace. We are relying on his development into an A-grader to become a contender. He’s barely a B-grader now.

Keeping the faith.

Edit: his season and career starts read as an average footballer. Have we overrated him somehow?

First month was great, since then he’s gone off a cliff. Wonder if he’s got op or something.

Soligo was as good as Dawson at the start of the year before a form slump just like Dawson who has since recovered, he was back to his best in the 2nd half last week against Collingwood and TOG has increase in the last few weeks.

Soliton getting more attention now. Other teams who once let him go unattended are now at least putting time into him. Now he needs to learn how to cope with that.

I think it's that plus a niggle he picked up a month ago

Soligo is our most balanced mid between contested work and skills. Shut him down and we lose quite a lot of ground level power and defensive workrate

He was down today on his usual output, but still held his own. He's a meat and potatoes footballer, not flashy but effective.
I always saw him as a promising accumulator of the ball at GWS, as a 22yo when playing a full season he averaged 22 touches a game in 2021 and 24 touches in 2022. Soft tissue injuries have slowed him down the past few years. As long as he stays healthy I think we will see more of his ball winning ability as he settles into the team and approaches his prime years

Dawson's goal scoring is way up on previous seasons. And his goal assists are tracking with his previous career best (2023, a year in which he himself kicked 6.15).

Good: having a West Coast supporting workmate say “Fk Jordan Dawson is just an unstoppable monster” and thinking - we’re usually on the other side of opposition midfielders monstering us

On Soligo I thought the Crouch factor might be at play but on looking it isnt

Crouch was out from R8 and Soligo had a solid 26+ disposal average first 4 rounds then only 2 x 22+ disposals since

He is still getting 15+ though

I said 2 weeks ago he looked hampered

If we played a good team, I hope we would have had more intensity from the start.
It's the "hope" i don't like.
When we put it altogether we look great, but we seem to have periods and games where we get ran over.
Our forward line has been consistent all year, but in the early games it was our defence that was leaking goals too much,.and more recently its the midfield that has been getting trounced by less quality mids in games.

But, to be fair, this year has been a tipping nightmare. Any team can, and has, beaten any other team even when we thought they were rubbish.
We smashed Essendon and St Kilda, but then they came back and beat teams who should have beaten them easily.
Even the best teams have been beaten by lower ranked teams consistently this year.
I'm not sure if that means there's not much between all the teams talent wise, or if its that alot of teams are inconsistent
Even Melbourne are looking like the best team after a shocking start, and Hawthorn are looking rubbish. Go figure.

I would want more than a month of great football to hand him an extension... but this has been a reminder that his best is very good, but unfortunately he just doesn't do it enough
It's a major red flag for a player who pick and choose when he decide to give effort and give him even a few years and even more disappointing for a supposed leader of a club to do this and let his team mates down.

Does anybody know what Nicks says to the group before they run out, pre-match, if anything?
The slow starts are a pattern, under Nicks.

I think it has to do with his dispassionate "OK boys, let's play our way" mantra.
You know "Go, do what you do".
I can't think of anything much less ho-hum and uninspiring than that.
