Ignore that plonker. Matera: I suspected defensive work was the reason he was dropped (naturally I failed to post it at the time making this entry hindsight hero material, but hey). The other thing I suspect is that reason he has got so much ball across the middle is not that he is playing so high but that's he's not running hard enough on transition (I.E from defense back to attack)

You don't need to "suspect", check out the heat map comparison on games for Goldcoast where Matera scored 3 to 6 goal games.

Most of his heat maps show a similar story. Plays fairly high up the ground. Definitely not playing as a small forward.

If you’ve been so concerned about Ross and the rebuild over such a period of time, why didn’t you speak up much earlier?
I also think you are drawing a massive long bow when you assert that we are heading for a 35 year drought. Based on what exactly? Your own opinion, a special gift or some other explanation.

Playing Ballantyne over McCarthy is stupid, try and excuse it all you want. Ballantyne will retire at the end of the year and has been utter shit this year so far, literally anyone on our list deserves a game ahead of him.

We're also playing Ballantyne over Ethan Hughes, it's a 100% lie to say there are no young players we can bring in.

We are still playing 13 guys with under 50 games and only 2 guys with more than 150 games (Ballas and Mundy).

Giro only played 4 WAFL games before earning his call-up. So far Logue has played 2 WAFL games this year and is still on limited minutes. Hopefully he's on track to play AFL after the bye.

Crowden is the interesting one. He only played the one WAFL game and was then the travelling emergency but missed out this week. Both he and Dixon (who makes his WAFL return this week) will be worth watching.

And some juicy speculation that we're getting a new coach at the end of the season and luckily (or not luckily for some) it's not James Hird and possibly the better Scott brother but knowing our luck (with pretty much everything) will be the worse Scott brother (then it will be Lyon's fault). The free kick stuff is on pause atm. Richmond are dead to us all after tonight but for once we are supportive of the MCG advantages for Vic teams. I don't want him playing either but giving games to young players who are not up to scratch does more harm than good. We have an average age of like 24 this weekend. You can't just play every young player on the list.

I also really like McCarthy but the guy clearly needs some confidence in the 2's. Crowden also needed a break and Hughes from all accounts is playing like shit and his last game backed that up.
