I don't see us changing structure, it's plug out, plug in I reckon. Laird in, a defender from yesterday arvo out. There's an elephant in the room, but I won't bring it up.
His ears are pretty big....

But I think that should be a discussion point, it wont be... but it should be.

Laird better suited for the wet conditions than Smith?

Tex prob a liability in those conditions too. Looks absolutely cooked to the naked eye.
Hes a better ground ball player, but IMO wet weather is about territory and Smith has him covered there.

I'm concerned about Tex, the cliff might be here ala Hawkins in his final year.

There'll be a very different approach between us and Geelong and it will have nothing to do with cottoning on to the costa living allowance. And it will explain why with equal quality lists we'll never regularly remain in contention like they have. We simply have different philosophies and priorities. It might change now that we have Balme, fingers crossed.

Wet weather is about speed and ground ball. Long gone are the days of quagmires and slow, territory gain type games. Players are still able to execute their skills, but the ball is on the ground more and it slides more, so speed becomes more important.

If its about speed then you're picking Smith over Laird as well.

Disagree a bit though, wet weather makes it harder to move the ball with precision so you just take the space. Fremantle played that perfectly up on the Goldy yesterday.

Still its early days, the forecast might change. Kinda hope it does.... Beer and BBQ Festival next weekend, the beers might be inside but the BBQ isn't!!!

No changes for mine unless it's going to be wet. But truly, does Adelaide ever have really wet games? 10mm is like a sprinkle up here! ;) Tex wasn't great last night, but probably needed to shake the cobwebs out after the week off. Reckon he might go ok on a home deck in front of a big crowd.

He shouldn't need to dust the cobwebs after a week off. He played like a 35yo man chased by Father Time.

Maybe... but I don't think we've seen the end of him yet. Reckon there's a bit of life left in him.

Out - Soligo ( weekend off football to freshen up for hawks )

In - Laird with Smith sub

Draper can play Soligo role
The coaches seemed to have managed Soligo’s game time a lot this year. Seems like they don’t want to run him into the ground, which is interesting as I haven’t seen that proactive approach taken with young mids much before.

Tex is absolutely cooked but the FB Boomers and Apricot Slice Brigade reckon he's flying. So we'll probably carry him to 300 regardless of how he performs...

I’m not sure if these changes threads are meant to be the changes we want to see or what we think we will see.

Anyone listening to Nicks’ comments about Walker will clearly see that they’re not going to rest him against Brisbane. Even last night Nicks was talking about the structure and leadership Walker brings.

That’s not what you hear when a player is about to get “rested”.

For me the only question will be whether Smith stays in or Laird comes straight back.

I suspect Laird will come back in, but Smith didn’t do anything wrong last night. Milera had one of his better games for the season, so he isn’t getting dropped.

I can’t see them dropping Draper for Laird as they have enough half backs already.

I could see Pedlar get dropped to sub and Draper into the starting 22, but that might be about it. You don’t get many changes after a 90 point win.

It helps having 3 talls otherwise guys like Harris Andrew’s can just dominate

Tex output last night was pretty similar to Fogs and you can’t ignore him as opposition because of his kicking can hurt you

It helps that his field kicking and vision is typically very good too. So key backs can’t just zone off him and let him roam up higher thinking he won’t hurt them as his kicks generally can still slice through defences and he has the range to kick over some zones.

He made a shocking decision in the last quarter bombing it onto 50, but that’s an exception more than the rule.

I’m picking Smith, Nank, Edwards and Bond over Laird. I do not see value in what he provides. I agree that if you’re after a sideways seagull with no ability to provide positive ball movement then he’s pretty much the best in the league. Question is whether there’s value in that role and I don’t think there is. I’d rather 10 disposals from anyone else than the 30 worthless we get from Laird.

Tex is fine, having him means opposition defense is stretched and less free man/run off half back

Tex actually allows more run off half back. Collingwood’s best on ground played on him. It’s now a feature of his game, allowing players to run off him without any pressure being applied.

Cobwebs after a week off 12 games into the season? Come on, you’re allowed to criticise his output without making up stories. Pies best player was on him and he was terrible in a 90 point win. It is what it is, his body is failing him. Him hacking the ball indiscriminately forward to only a Swans player is a certain sign that Tex has lost confidence in his body.

Remember the ‘mini preseason’ that he was going to have in 2018 or 2019 that was deleted after we lost a couple of games unexpectedly? We need to plan for September action and that should see Tex rejuvenating over the next few weeks and then being properly managed, not worked into the ground.

Name the premiership sides that played with 3 key forwards? Just being tall or having leadership isn’t enough to have an overall positive influence on team performance. Tell me who played on Tex against the Pies and who was their best player in a 10 point win. Did Tex’s height and leadership outweigh Howe’s influence in their win?

I'm with you 100%, but we all know Laird's coming straight back in
