Laird shouldn't have a spot in this team - he's not doing anything wrong, but he's a limited footballer and we already have better options. Watch our ball movement from defense go backwards from last week due to his selection.

Smith - can live with it, but only because we haven't taken the opportunity to get someone like Edwards (even Draper?) into the side and settled.

Tex - if it is wet and we play him, it's a joke, and just proves that the tail is wagging the dog.
I’m fine with laird coming back in. He’s best 22 but sliding down the list.

Love Tex but he should have been the out. Leave Draper as sub even for one more week …. fresh legs in the wet.

The way we’re playing Draper is terrible. Just like we did with Curtin.

Plays sub for pretty much every game, and if doesn’t dominate, drops him. Give him a few full games and let him get settled FFS. Asking a kid to play a quarter at a time and making a mark just ain’t going to work.

Sub should be aging player who can do with a rest but step up if needed.

Oh well.

I’d go with Smith as sub, hopefully come on for one of our talls.

Back during the DMac days, I can remember a friend telling me the Crows culture of valuing experience over talent came from St Peters College where Trigg used to be a teacher.

Apparently they’d hold annual sports matches against rivals Prince Alfred College and regularly lose, with a policy of prioritizing and selecting senior players over more talented younger students. The rationale was that the younger students would have more chances in the future and the senior students had been waiting for their chance. Sound familiar?

It might be suitable for a school to make sure everyone gets their turn, but not for a sporting club competing at the highest level.

Triggy became Master in Charge of Football for my final year there. This was John Halbert’s first year as coach. When in year 11 we had 2 year 10s play in the firsts, Seb Packer was one of them. I was only there for 1 year of the Trigg reign, but it wasn’t the case then, but it wouldn’t surprise me if that changed. Especially after Halbert left, Trigg’s influence would have increased significantly.

Spot on - Sub is the perfect way to keep an experienced, versatile player in the side, who should be able to come on and have an impact without needing to find their feet.

Using kids as the sub and preferencing the older guys in the team is the perfect example of what is wrong with our approach and very short term thinking.

Ah so this explains a lot….

Pretty bloody wet out there, if this keeps up we can’t play Tex. He’s moving like a truck these days, he will get subbed at 1/4 time
Taylor for Taylor would be the smart move.

Not sure what? Had no drama with Trigg as a teacher, he was my year 12 Geography teacher, I got 17/20. As I posted back in the day, he’s just not a particularly intelligent person, it’s no wonder he failed at the more important and difficult decisions. He’s a very average operator.

And nothing to do with footy, played firsts all through year 11 until dislocating my shoulder. Then got OP and further dislocations, playing only a handful more games across end year 11 and year 12.

I will admit that I didn’t like school footy much as it wasn’t as geared to winning as club footy. To under 15s I was at Rosewater and then Pooraka for 17s. Winning was why we were there, I never felt that sense of hard competitiveness at Saints.

Hopefully Tex another late tactical out and Sid back in...

Also if conditions are as forecast tonight, would be absolutely stupid to have Pedlar or Berry as sub.

Another miss and 1 final and he still gets 300. Still have all of winter ahead of us, I can’t see them doing it. I think they keep the spare in the back pocket just in case there’s a week where he can’t get out of bed.
