Prediction R13: Changes vs Carlton

I doubt Sandi is travelling this weekend for Jones.

A shit game from Jones will come eventually and he’ll be dropped accordingly for Sandi or Darcy, as far as I’m concerned he’s been competitive in the ruck and plays his role under severe limitations quite well.

In - Hughes, Sandilands, Fyfe, Johnson (reluctantly).
Out - Ballantyne, Jones, Walters (sus), Pearce (inj)

If Pearce, Duman or Logue were available I'd leave Johnson out and Cox at CHB isn't really an option since he played so well yesterday so unfortunately Johnson gets back in.

The whole point of being a small forward is to swoop on the loose ball but Ballantyne falls over far too much which makes it hard to impact the contest.

Jones has been surprisingly good but surely Sandi will be ready to go.

I want Ryan and Wilson dropped, I'm beginning to realise I miss the weekly heart in your mouth thrills of not knowing whether the ball is going to be kicked long and accurately out of deep defence. Those two don't belong at Freo.

Maybe to help those of us who have been around since the beginning adjust they could leverage the LED's to have a 'Prince of Pockets moment' every home game. At a randomly selected switch of play in the D50 the lights will flash purple and the defender will have to stop and, instead of kicking long to the fat side, tuck the ball under his arm and immediately charge directly towards the nearest knot of defenders.

Gee Jones has only played 2 games...remember sandis first couple!!

Check out some of the players post game interviews. Most mention Jones and his physical presence. When you’ve got a giant who lays bone crunching tackles and crashes packs to the point of taking the wind out of at least one player...you’re gonna walk a little taller with a teammate like that!

In saying that Sandi should replace him when he’s ready. I don’t think he’s ready as yet.

Interesting toss up if Sandy is available

Ape is a good man to have in the clinches , his follow up work was excellent yesterday if his body allows it and he gets a smidgen more mobile he could probably do a decent Brody Grundy impersonation but I don't think he was quite as effective forward as we would have hoped for but again he looks like he's about 85% fit so this could also improve

I had my doubts about Jones mobility but he was vital to our efforts yesterday , he really got to the contest way better than I thought he would it was pretty noticeable that we gave up probably a season low in intercept marks and a lot of that was down to Jones competitiveness his stat line wasn't that impressive but his role in that win was huge

I think we could get a reminder of how good Sandy can be with a viable back up in the team and don't forget I thought our most dangerous looking fwd set up this year is when the big guy was resting deep

The best mix might be Sandi / Jones as harsh as that might be on the ape

I was pleasantly surprised by Jones. Obviously he is slow but he is a presence and knows how to assert himself, also his stamina seems to be adequate as well. Kreuzer is a different kettle of fish than Jacobs though..

Guys, if Jones ever becomes best 22 we are in trouble. Has been playing his role pretty well but he is far too slow to ever cement a best 22 spot. Given our away form and the fact Kreuzer is one of 2 or 3 decent players on Carltons team, if Sandi is fit, he plays. He gets another week off anyway.

I dont think anyone here expects him to.

We have Darcy, Ape, Nads and Meek on the list.

We're set.

You're probably right but people seem very quick to forget how much better Sandi would make us over Jones. Sandi makes a contest just as well as Jones and actually takes some marks. He also gives us silver service from stoppages. If his body isnt fresh after having two weeks off I dont think another two on the back of it will make much of a difference.

If his head is right, play him.

Yeah I reckon Sandi plays bye the next week anyway, could be potentially his last year I doubt he would want to be resting if that's the case and he's fit and ready to go.

One thing I have against Sandi though, is that he's too gentle. As in he doesn't crush packs, create a contest. He holds his hands up to mark and more often then not doesn't get it.
Yesterday Jones was bone crunching. His tackles stuck, and hard. And think it was two times where he came into the contest, knew he wasn't going to win it, and just bulldoze the defenders. Puts his body on the line. It really helped our forwards.

He's already had 2 weeks off, would be surprised if he's rested again.

Do you (and others with similar sentiments) have any appreciation for how serious the injury is that Sandilands sustained? He damaged his brain and failed the concussion test by a wide margin this week. I wouldn't be surprised if he misses again, and I wouldn't classify it as being rested.

Not really no. I thought he just had standard concussion.

If he's injured then he's injured. That's different than "resting" though.

I thought it would be fairly obvious that we are only selecting Sandi on the proviso of him passing the Cog test and getting the all clear from the doctors.
