I would hope a professional sporting organisation wouldn’t factor in getting a player to a round number of games just because it looks good on paper at the expense of optimal team selection. I would be all for removing the culture around celebrating players for reaching round numbers altogether.

We limped Ricciuto to break Ben Hart's (then ) games record tally and arguably cost ourselves an elimination final win (Massie on Franklin not withstanding)

Roo was a complete liability in that final game - ended up with half dozen possessions? If that?

Classic “too good for SANFL, not good enough for AFL” player. Every AFL game he’s played for the Crows he has looked so far off it, it’s not funny.

I think the general vibe is we can gun for a top 4 spot, or we can give games to a few more youngsters, we can't do both. Hence why as the season progresses we get as old as possible.

Same thing we did in 2023 when we got a real sniff after the 1st half of the year. So unless an injury strikes I don't expect we'll see many forced change in our 23 going forward.

We can do both.

We're getting close.

i dont agree with bullying. its pathetic tbh. but at the same time, players are relentlessly bullied by the crowd during games. So im not surprised its happening. Its probably only a small minority of ****wits that are doing it. I dont agree with it. I have never bullied a player. Even on here, i have no problems with Murphy as a person, he probably is a genuinely great guy. Everything should be based on an assessment of whether he can AFL football, and the answer is no.

Who replaces him? Anyone who deserves a debut. Edwards comes to mind - shuffle the deck chairs and give the kid a chance to get a taste. Same as Smithers. As an older player that Nicks has decided is essential to our team ... he should have been rested against Richmond so Oscar Ryan could get his debut.

People post some strange things on this board. How is Edwards a replacement for Walker? Where does he play? Why would we 'rest' Smith right off a bye when he's played a handful of games and recently been sub? If he's not good enough to be in the AFL side that's fine but he's not in need of a rest.

In terms of SANFL players who might come in, Draper has an argument specifically and only because he's a top 5 pick. Beyond that the players you have pushing for selection in the SANFL are basically Edwards (if we want a defender), Pedlar as a forward when he was fit (if we need a small forward) and Burgess, who is absolutely dominating but we have no need for in the AFL side. The rest of the depth is a list of players who have been extensively tried at AFL level (Sholl, Jones, Schoenberg) and players who are performing adequately in the SANFL but not well enough to push someone out of a team that is in the top 4. Realistically the only player who hasn't already played this year who would even be considered for selection would be Edwards, unless we have a series of injuries.

Walker is still playing well enough to demand a good defender and to be able to exploit miss-matches. Without it TT and Fog would be getting double teamed.

TT has clearly become more of the focal point up forward as he’s grown as a player, but him getting up the ground/pinch hitting in ruck with Fog and Walker providing forward options creates an incredibly dynamic mix. I'm not sure you get that without Walker.
