Francis Rampe Defo out with McLean probably most under pressure to keep his spot.

McCartin and Amartey should be the inclusions with a decision on Ladhams or McLean. Maybe Ladhams to deal with Darcy/Jackson double threat and McLean does look in need of gaining form/confidence in 2’s. Buller has to play and should be given 4-5 weeks to see whether he has a future at Swans.

Either need to play Florent for a full game in Seniors or allow a full game in Reserves, he also looked short on confidence/form and will be a test on Cox’s coaching on how he handles both Florent and McLean, hopefully seeing a return to their best.

Swans are decent favourites for this one and last 3 games we have seen a huge uptick in form. I am expecting another improved performance and a win, never know what Freo or Gold Coast will do if there is any pressure for a spot in the 8. They usually go to water when the heat is on. We have a fairly soft run home too.

If Green and Snell are rarely doing anything at VFL level, barring the one or two odd good games, what faith is there to put in them to play at AFL level?

If you can’t take the piss at VFL level, then you probably shouldn’t be playing AFL..

There is so much more to be gained by playing them over Ladhams and Hamling types. I have more faith in giving them minutes to sink or swim at senior level than plugging two guys in that we have seen play and we know what they do and what they can’t do. We’re not making finals so at this stage if it comes down to Hamling or Snell, I want Snell playing and if it comes down to Ladhams and Green, I want Green. I wouldn’t care if they performed worse than an average Hamling or Ladhams game because the point is to get real senior games into them so they grow.

I wouldn't be against it, I liked him in the side before he was dropped. I just don't think he's shown much in the reserves the last few weeks and I'd prefer to see him respond to that challenge before being given another go at senior level.

I suspect what we’ll see instead of Snell is Roberts shifting back into defence and Florent taking a role on the wing for Roberts. But I like each of these changes personally.

Francis is suspended and Rampe out 2 weeks with a calf injury so that's happening. McCartin and Amartey are the obvious replacements for them.
I wouldn't mind Cleary in for Florent as sub but not Rowy. Lloyd played better than Florent so stays.
Who replaces McLean? Only Ladhams. That would be a good call IMO to combat the double rucks.
There's no place for Snell unless another defender is dropped.

Rowy occupies a weird limbo space with Swans fans. Highly underrated for his role in our recent successful years (one of the key players in both GF tilts in 22 & 24, yet spoken about as just some decent player), yet evidently overrated enough that he can have 15 sub-par performances (by his standards) in a row, and no one even mention the prospect of dropping him.

I guess there is not a lot of precedent for what to do in this scenario because I genuinely can't think of another player at his level who has had an entire season - not even one game! - that's been a failure to launch.

I don't know if he's been injured this year, if his pre-season wasn't great, if it's his role, if maybe he's focused too much on leadership... maybe it's an amalgamation of all of them. But I think something needs to change.

Firstly, Roberts was in defence against the Dogs already. Secondly, you'd replace Francis and Rampe with 2 talls given the opposition. Well, Cox should anyway.

IMO we cannot play only two talls + Blakey down back against a forward line that will invariably include Treacy, Amiss, Voss, Jackson and Darcy. Both Rampe & Francis need replacing I think, otherwise Blakey and/or Mills have to play tall and we lose our structure down back.

Francis played forward. If you want to bring in a third defensive tall (Hamling or Snell) you need to drop another defender and/or reshuffle. Not saying you shouldn't but your original post didn't achieve that.

You'd re-shuffle to what we normally do, with 3 KPDs. Francis played forward because we didn't need him down back, but this week we would have.

Back 7 of 3 KPDs plus Wicks, Cunningham, Blakey, Mills with Jmac to roll back when Blakey is off or 2 of above are.

Francis also spent time in defence though, meaning that's one less tall to provide support down there than we had last week.

I don't think it would be that hard to reshuffle though. Move Roberts and/or Lloyd further up to accommodate another tall.

I think this is a good thing, it’s an opportunity if Cox has the foresight to plan for next season. Expose Snell to the seniors with an experienced backline to support him and give Snell a few games to get a feel for what the top level is. He might sh*t the bed and that’s okay.
