Berry is pretty bloody safe in the 22 I think.

Doing very well this year. He's probably the one who is not so safe if we somehow recruit a big name midfielder (Oliver, lols) but right now he's fine.

I think there's numerous posters that long for the day when we'd have Laird, Mrouch and Sloane all getting 30+ and being the top 3-4 possession winners on the ground whilst being in the bottom 3-4 midfields of the comp. Some people don't understand quality and overall team output and are fixated on us having the highest possession winners.

Lol, scallywags.

So basically hardly anyone is making calls to bring in Crouch is a must... certainly not straight in before finding form in the sanfl.

I wouldn't be writing him off, but it's now line ball whether he comes back in & needs to earn a recall.

Give me names.

Doesn't sound like many.

Bovo, Golumness, Crouch, matt1202, Ham, plus Not Darryl Crow & Huntercrow liking his post. As I said, a handful, I'm not going to look any further tonight, but there's more, just had a couple of Jagermeisters next to our fire, best I calm down on the posting for a bit.

Core group, but they are very much in the minority.

We are on a footy forum, so there are going to be different views.

That guy bagging Isaac Cumming

Tell me what this is. I guess that the bloke on the left plays a non-statistical role where their job is to run patterns and provide experience. Of course the 2 x 26 possession outcomes from Curtin on his wing or the 10 disposal first quarter against the Dogs by Cumming are when they're failing at the non-statistical component of their role. I mean, how can a 14 disposal per game player that's doing everything they're meant to do with respect to patterns and structure, still be doing that whilst also getting their hands on it 10 times in a single quarter. And WTF is Curtin doing, fancy getting his hands on the ball as an AFC wingman, surely that's not his job and hopefully he's being counselled to be better with his running patterns and non-statistical pursuits.

Oddly, not Bicks at all. He's supporting Berry's continual selection, who'd we'd think would be the most direct contest.
Reality if Crouch comes back in, it Berry who misses out as can't really have both.

Right now it's Berry's position to lose.

Raw number of possessions is important or it isn't

Wingmen also have a significant role to cover plenty of ground & block up space to slow opposition movement.

Wasn't Sholl doing that? Wasn't Jones doing that in 2023 & 2024 when he was getting as much or more of the ball as Cumming?

Or is it only Cumming that is doing a 'non-statistical wing job'?

You guys can't have it both ways. Cumming got it 10 times in the first quarter last week, don't tell me his job is to not get the ball.

What do you mean having it both ways?

I'm one of Jones biggest fans... hoping he plays a full game this week as 3rd wingman & also supported Sholl in past... but we currently have better options.

Think you have me confused for someone else.

Maybe. I'm arguing that using the 'non-statistical', 'running patterns' excuse for low possession wing output is how David Mackay playing 250 games was excused and largely guffawed at by many, especially Spackler (and me). Curtin has now had 2 x 26 disposal games in 3 weeks and Cumming had 10 in a quarter last weekend. I just don't think that wings aren't meant to get the ball and their entire role is to run around and guard space. I also accept that Cumming isn't really in danger in terms of being selected in our 23, but I reckon that's more to do with who would be the replacement, reality is that it's either Jones or Dowling or go back to Sholl. But apart from a handful of crisp hitups, Cumming hasn't really been much, or any, better than the alternatives.
