Interesting!

Really thought it was a bit of a nothing game from him. He had one brilliant moment on the wing that set up a goal, but other than that thought it was a bit of a vanilla game.
I didn't see a vanilla game. I saw a game of 2 halves. He looked rusty and not 100% confident in the 1st half.

In the 2nd he seemed to lift and didnt make as many skills errors. Was quite handy.

Not sure makes the best 10.... let's see..
in no order off the top of my head from a game that involed moderate libation...

Dawson
Thilthorpe
Soligo
Rachelle
Crouch
Fogarty
Rankine
ANB/Cumming/Keayes

ok probably 11th and I'm probably missing some too.

Vanilla would be 15th to 22nd .... or Murphys best game ever...

I would remove Keays from your group, but say that Keane, Worrell, ROB, Peatling and Laird all had more impact than Hinge.

I had him in the 14-22 group. Not concerned at all. Think it was a very even contribution from our side.

What was wrong with Tex game ? He played his role very well

Difference between playing your role and not having influence

Let the stars star and the role players do their job

It’s how pies won a flag with a pretty poor bottom 5 on talent eg Frampton

As I said - I don't think Tex had a bad game. Just didn't really influence the match compared to his team mates.

He was on the ground for 55% of the match, had 2 marks, 3 kicks and a goal in a 60 point drubbing.

But to say he played his role very well is overkill. He took a backseat in a 60 point training drill and had very little influence in the match - which once again is perfectly fine.

He's pretty much an on-ground forward coach. I think his influence is more about how effective the forwards are as a group. As long as his lack of mobility doesn't get exploited he's valuable regardless of stats. Essendon have terrible key defenders - if he gets their third best he could well snag a few.

That said, if its going to be wet I'd rest him and bring in someone like Pedlar.

Did we have a bad game?

Or do we just need to get use to that as a 34 year old he’s now a role player and FOG and RT are now the focal points of the forward line

Right now - Tex just being out there means that either RT or Fog can’t be double teamed

No, we won by 60 points.

Sure being a decoy helps our team and he might take on that role. However - being used as a decoy won't have a big influence on games.

And I am not saying the opposite.

Not sure how what I said was controversial - a bloke who played half the game and had 3 kicks and 1 goal and was used as a decoy didnt have a big influence on the game.

What?
I think you have it the wrong way around? He had it 14 times in the first half (9 in the first qtr) and only 5 in the last half of the game, only had 1 turnover for the game and went at 79% efficiency.

Hinge (Happy Stephen2 ) Had 19 touches, 16 of which were uncontested possessions and only had 205 metres gained (his lowest since mid 2023 and he didnt go under 250 in 2024).

Felt he was sound defensively, did the bare minimum and had very little impact offensively.

My point was hinge had a better first half (1/4) not second half as someone said he had a better second half.
Had less impact that I remembered in the second half.
