Preview R2: Changes vs. Western Bulldogs

It’s cool when the biggest selection issue is Chayce Jones as an emergency over the likes of Nankervis and Edwards. He should not be near the 26 ahead of those two

The injury risk is pretty minimal. If you're going to do an ACL/PCL as a ruck, it probably wasn't far from going anyways. It's the structural risk that has me worried.

After all, it's much easier to get an uptick in ball movement and general offensive play if your star CHF is used at CHF for 90% of the game.

What ass-backwards commentary is this? Yes let's take a potentially hall of fame/generational key forward out of the forward line and play mid/ruck for... reasons. CHF and being the lead KPF is the position Thilthorpe will exert the most influence over a game.

Also Thilthorpe played ruck for the longest he did all season against the Hawks in that semi final (noting ROB only played 74% of time). Another of the brain dead moves our panic-stricken coaching box made in that game as all it did was take our star KPF out of the forward line for more than a third of the the game, factoring in the extra bench time that being a 2nd ruck brings.
I understand why people feel the way you do, however the game has changed so massively since the days of Lockett averaging 6+ goals a game. Tillthorpe averaged under 2.5 goals a game in a year that he made the all Australian side, while Mabior Chol and Aaron Cadman averaged nearly 2. Forward lines are so system based now that no team is reliant on one player to kick the 16 or so goals needed for a victory (Tillthorpe is only contributing 15% of that anyway). Adelaide in fact has about 8 players up there who could kick a winning score on any given day. We don’t have the outright midfield talent though to get the ball down there often enough, and a high enough level, to exploit that talent.

I have no doubt that English or Bont could average at least 2.5 goals a game if they played permanant forward as well, I bet no doggies fan wants to see it though.

It will all get down to how well McAndrew goes against the similar height of Tim English in the ruck contests and how well he can curb English's influence around the ground for the full game given that there's little doubt English has superior endurance and an alround superior skill set.

I wonder if Toby Murray got a game last week because the McAndrew experiment result was so uncertain.

Darcy Cameron is a quality opponent and we didn't really know how our rookie would both compete and endure against him. At 32% TOG, it really looked like a backup selection against it all going wrong.

But...

McAndrew was great and more than met expectations. He looks like a lead ruckman.

The selectors must have thought so too. He's going it alone this week and although I can't see what the chop out option is, he's being given the sole responsibility to nullify an elite opponent.

Come on Lachie!!

The chop out option will just be Thilthorpe again this week. It's a fairly minimal risk to do it for a single match. The intention will be to use Murray again when he's available.

According to 5AA, TT might be a late withdrawal with back soreness.

I’m all for promoting youth, but Edwards is not ready for AFL midfield yet.
There's only one way to find out.

It's unlikely Chayce Jones figures in our long term future now, Edwards may?

So we’re assuming someone got their wires crossed re the late change and Thilly is fine?
I'm assuming 5AA are making shit up to get attention.

I know it's great for you lot back home, but can we stop scheduling prime time games whilst I'm "working"....

Way to many games where I'm nodding in a meeting, whilst watching the game and hoping nobody asks me any questions.

And BAM....
Jones in, Bond out.

Gotta get him 3 games though. For F/S reasons.

That's unbelievable. Played 97 games. He is reaching MacKay levels of memorable matches.
Lets not go that far... more like Murphy.
Dmac was well over 200, that's another level.

Looks like we are keen to have 1st crack at his kids.

Nank and Edwards must be ****ing frustrated

Both were highlighted by coaches and players for standout pre-seasons and vanilla Jones now plays ahead of them

Nick’s obvious doesn’t trust them in a blockbuster game

Ridiculous selection

There's some sort of unexplained fixation they have for a non statistical player. It was Murphy now it's Jones, it boggles the mind.

The emergencies named in the selected side were Chayce Jones, ROB and Borlase so Jones is by far and away nore like for like than the other two.

It's more the point Nankervis & Edwards should be named ahead of Jones as emergencies.

Many made this point last night.
