I went to the game and then watched the replay. Completely outclassed, everywhere. But I will say that Kako knows how to football. You try to be patient, but Perkins looks a dud. And while Reid was monstered, he just needs more games. Edwards will be really good, but not as the focal point in the forward line. Caddy, understandably, looked frustrated at his teammates continually ignoring his leads.

That was before players became over paid athletes.
This is the problem, and indeed why football is not as good as it was 25+ years ago. I miss watching actual footy players who play in proper positions and compete for the ball in the air and on the ground (this rebound crap is getting boring). I must be getting old.

That was so frustrating. Again and again, simply allowing the opponent to stand in front, sometimes a metre or more, to be led to the ball. I don't even play footy and even I could see they needed to check more tightly. Ben Jacobs, wtf?
Frustrating it was. At least 10 times they hit up leads inside 50. I can only remember once with Draper late in the game for us.

I have defended Scott but starting to think he is a very poor match day coach. Slow to react and not brave enough to try something different. I would have liked him to try McKay forward and Jones back when it is clear the current plan is not woworking
Pardon the intrusion to the thread, but McKay is absolutely hopeless as a forward. We tried it at North, and I'd rather play one short than have him up forward. His inability to kick also is a problem, in the rare time he gets a shot at goal.

Never, ever, ever play him forward, unless you're wanting to tank for draft picks.

He's not looked good the last 2 weeks, because the "team defence" of midfielder and forwards wanting to gut run and cover opponents (we have same problem at North) has meant the ball is coming in to one of one contests, which Silvagni or Scarletr wouldn't be able to stop. McKay is a good intercept mark, and if the ball is coming into the 50 under some pressure, he's at his best with the ball in the air. He's being asked to defend things that don't suit his game.

It should be fine, we're young so this was always going to happen, we're gonna be really good when we're a little older, everyone knows that.
We we are on target for what you want. A complete bottom out. Not sure what you are complaining about. 😛

No we aren't, we're wasting good positions on Shiel, Prior, McGrath and McKay. And I know the experienced guys are coming in for inexperienced soon.

I'm not scared of losing I'm scared we'll bring back senior guys like Parish, Wright, Laverde and Setterfield to help us ease pressure because we can't be seen to bottom out.

Our centre clearance work was very meh. They basically maned us up and neutralised us into nothing clearances that went nowhere.

The other issue is we all get sucked into contest and leave players on the outside. This is a football smarts issue but also players an issue with players thinking that putting effort in means always going hard into the contest. It has annoyed me for years and it is generally a result of trying to convert players into other positions or players who have had limited defensive mind sets who over cook things.

Gets a mention for a different reason. He has a red hot go but he is down on form. I would not say he has got in front of himself. I would say he is frustrated in his form and the little protection he is getting in the contest. Sides are deliberately going after him. He was average and lost focus a few times but unlike Martin his effort could not be questioned.

I'm pretty sure he's not 100% physically.
He didn't look right last week early and I don't think he has managed to back up after a week back.

He had like 6 weeks off training due to “soreness” in Jan/Feb. The injury update said something about if we were in season he would be playing but because there’s no games they were trying to get him right.

Whatever it is, it doesn’t seem to be going away.

The annoying thing is those kind of reports are often when a player is struggling with a groin complaint.

Would not be surprised if there is something going on in a similar vein here.

He doesn't look the same player so far this year.

That's why I mentioned in another thread I'm struggling to watch the game these days. Doesn't matter who's playing.

Seems I'm getting old too.

Probably right. Had bruised ribs around a month ago.

Yeah I’d say so. Some sort of inflammation that doesn’t really go away, whether it’s OP or turf toe.

If it is a groin they should just send him to Ireland and be done with it. No use making it worse for the sake of season 2025, which has all the makings of a miserable one.
