Going off of todays game, and this/last weeks team, what do we think next weeks team will be?

Team VS Bombers;

B: Michael Pettigrew, Alipate Carlile, Jacob Surjan
HB: Nathan Krakouer, Troy Chaplin, Dom Cassisi
C: Shaun Burgoyne, Chad Cornes, Steven Salopek
HF: Robert Gray, Justin Westhoff, Peter Burgoyne
F: Brett Ebert, Warren Tredrea, Daniel Motlop
R: Dean Brogan, Kane Cornes, Danyle Pearce
Interchange: Travis Boak, Josh Carr, Brendon Lade, David Rodan
Emergencies: Tom Logan, Wade Thompson, Toby Thurstans

There will almost certainly be no changes, but Boaky's form needs to improve.

There were concerns over the couple of preseason games he played that he wasn't travelling that well, and it was put down to some minor niggles (?groin soreness). He was anything but assured today and tired pretty noticeably in the third quarter. While I can't see him being dropped in a hurry, a brutal assessment of his form for nearly a month now, would have him the most vulnerable to drop out for Logan or Thompson.

Petters could be in trouble with the Tribunal (Lower).

Boak could be in trouble due to lack of form (Logan).

If Ebo's shoulder has any problems (Thompson).

If Ebert doesnt pull up I can see Thompson coming in for him. Other then that no changes. Gotta remember it was the first real game of the season. So drastic changes dont need to be made just yet.

Brett came back onto the field, so you'd imagine he only got a stinger in his shoulder, if it's worse than that, then Wade Thompson would come in for him.

If Petters is in trouble, then I'll go he for chasey, but we do have Nick, Paul & Matt all finding good SANFL form.

If Broges is in trouble, (for what I dunno?) it'd have to be out of Toby or Jon.

I would give Boak a game off and give Tommy Logan a game.

They won't drop Boak, if anything Thompson should come in for the pace factor at Subi.

From what I can see, we have been given little credit for this win and we really need to beat west coast and melbourne to increase our credibility.

Personally I thought we played ok, without being spectacular and will be alot better for the run, the big Q and Hanson will also show us where Chappy and Bob are at development wise.

I am shattered I have to wait until late Sunday arvo to see the boys :(

I'd drop Surjan and replace him with Lower.

How could you say that? Surjan played very well, unless it was a match up he would be unlucky! Would Lower provide the run out of defence Surjan has been providing? Lower looks more like and give and go type. port wants runners, runners and runners that will break lines.

How bad is the shoulder of Ebo?

Thompson could really run a muck on Subi given its size and his pace.

How many people realise that the playing surface of Subiaco is smaller than AAMI Stadium?

I agree with Rory as well. Port Adelaide's now traditional favouring of the fleet of foot is a part of what led to last year's mess - plus every mess that has occurred since the end of 2004. Surj worked hard (he always does) and he looked good on Sunday, but he was allowed to. Are we all of a sudden as confident against some actually decent small forwards? It has already been mentioned before that while we were getting pumped against Geelong last year, Lower did a job on an All-Australian Norm Smith medal winner. For the latter half of the season, he was damn solid, with plenty of great aggro to go with it. How can it still be so hard to accept that the ball is sometimes going to come back the other way, and we're going to need players who can deal with that a lot better than a mosquito fleet of "runners"? 4kg of muscle mass is not enough, especially for those whose foot disposal will never be elite.

That said, I don't predict any changes outside of injury/suspension.

I'd drop Surjan and replace him with Lower.

Were you at the game or watching from your arm chair. Do you know football.
There is no reason to DROP Surjan at this stage. would love to read your reason for this but you must be able to back up your reason. Surjan plays team football

..... If Broges is in trouble, (for what I dunno?) ......
Match review panel: round one

.... The match day report laid against Port Adelaide’s Dean Brogan for engaging in rough conduct against Essendon’s Andrew Lovett during Sunday’s match was assessed. The Panel is conducting further interviews to determine what occurred during this incident, as video evidence was inconclusive. Please note this matter is ongoing. ......

hi guys, was just wondering on how jason davenport is going at port & has he played in the sanfl or any other games that he may of played.

he was ripping it up at vfl levell & just couldnt get a go at the cats
i was a fan of his & would of loved if the tigers gave him a shot

real terrier this kid, hope he gets a run soon.

I'd drop Surjan and replace him with Lower.
I agree with everyone else on this. Sergio had a great game in defence. He took a great mark in the pack and rebounded at the right time. He played a great game. Lower on the other hand will have to bide his time. I don't believe that his disposal is as bad as everybody thinks. He has just not yet adapted to the quicker pace of AFL footy as far as his skills go. He tries so hard he looses his composure but he is better skilled than most people think. I watched him a lot in the SANFL and this year, after dominating for so many weeks in the SANFL he will come in and cause a few selection headaches. He is the right size, quick and will develop into a good midfielder. He is my smoky to become one of Port's most improved players. If anyone gets a chance to watch him play see if you can see that special talent that is waiting to come out.

I think Lower is definitely AFL standard and don't agree with his detractors either. For mine, his skill level is adequate and his composure and leadership potential very good. If we're having a go at his disposal efficiency, then there are others in our 22 from yesterday who would deserve equal scrutiny.

However, I can't see unforced changes being made from that 22 while they keep winning. Boak and Shaun Burgoyne were really the two main underperformers and both are clearly very safe at the moment.

Surjan played pretty well, although IMO our taller backmen outshone our smaller defenders.
