Agreed. That is why you do this earlier in the year against opposition you know you can handle with one "newbie" added to the squad. We seem to be forced into changes rather than plan changes.

We already know what everyone on our list is capable of (and where they stand) to a significant degree as that is what preseason is for.

Even the guys like Curtin. As much as we didn't plan he'd break out this year, we've treated him as a star prospect from the first bounce and given that opportunity. Hell we purposely sacrificed structure to have him in.

You would think there can't be that many disabled people that the stadium can't manage a parking solution for them in some way, as opposed to the general public.

I’m assuming it’s just the grass parking that is canceled? Surely they could find space in the underground parking.

Admittedly it’s not often, but any time I’ve gone to a sporting event with someone with accessibility issues they have been incredibly accommodating when we have rung ahead.

Just reading the Port Showdown thread.

Not much positivity.

Gather McEntee is their Murphy as they have not redacted well to his selection. They would prefer an overweight Rioli who has just eaten a party pizza.

Some don't see the point of risking Rozee.

Also, their thread is about 40% smaller than ours, so their supporters are checking out too.

If you look at raw numbers, over the season we are a 700 point better side than them. About 300 points better in defence and 400 more in attack. Thats huge, coupled with them being really poor in a lot of key ball winning stats. They are going to need to put up a franchise best effort to get us tomorrow and we will need to be off imo. If the rain can pass before the game and its a still night, once we get past their initial efforts, we could wipe the floor with them.

For the love of God man!

The thing is, for a half that franchise best effort happened in the last Showdown, and we still won. After all, we got completely smashed at the coalface, losing clearances 56-29 and stoppage clearances 42-18. Just because of how much damage we could do when Butters and JHF are off.

Not sure this is the right game for cook but happy to be wrong.
Would like to see 1 less tall too

If it's not the right game for Cook, we should be delisting him this off-season.

Also one less tall = Murphy being selected, so that's a careful what you wish for deal.

I'd argue we are also playing better footy now than we were earlier in the year. We also have the Dan Curtin factor where he has started to really influence games now and port have no natural match up for him. The weather will be the only thing that could keep it close imo

The matchup for curtain i think would be Bergmann... but they'll probably use him on Dawson again.

Why? His best asset is his skills.

Only if we have no thinking skills.

The weather is my worry. PA will love it.

I remember a wet showdown in 2017 I think it was when people were worried for the same reason. Half the Port side came out in long sleeve guernseys (weak as piss) and we won by 15 goals IIRC.

Skills don't add much (edit: useless was too harsh) without the ability to win contests and ground balls, which is something wet weather exposes. A close preliminary final (or really, any close must win game against a serious side) is going to be a lot closer to a showdown in the wet then a day when the slopes are pristine for a downhill ski.

No, its just the depth chart. We don't see Dowling, Edwards, or Nankervis as small forwards, and we don't rate any of them high enough to break our structure for. If we did, it's dubious if Pedlar would have got a recall last week. Draper we probably do rate highly enough but we're currently got a bit of tunnelled vision on him being an inside midfielder. So yeah, it's Murphy.

I'd agree. Curtin was subbed off for Berry last game...only 3 possessions, whereas now he's a gun, and part of the team fabric. Ditto with Berry, who has now established himself and gives us a better tagging option for Butters. Cumming is a loss, but think we can cover him. Hope it's not too wet and slippery, as that definitely evens things up.

Brodie Smith has been held back from the SANFL. Late change?

Hopefully for Hinge.

Jones can play a full game, Smith to sub.

Getting antsy here now. It’s 10:13 am in London and we’ve decided to have a slow start to the day and hope to get in at least the first half of footy before we have to head out to see Witness for the Prosecution this arvo followed by Oasis at Wembley stadium tonight. Go Crows! A win and no injuries please.
