Review R20: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Port: Like taking candy from a baby

Willie Rioli a favourite now, geez mate you've lost the plot.
The original comment was around Bonds performance, you know that.

Bond was good, but he was playing on an overweight, disinterested Rioli. He is barely SANFL standard at this point.

That takes the shine off of his performance a little.

I'm a fan of Hugh and IMO he HAS to play his week with Hawthorns arsenal of smalls in good form.

If you calmed down a little you'd recognise it.

And now we get a 6 day break and the Hawks an 8 day break...seems fair at this point of the season....Not.
I would love to see a breakdown of our crucial match ups with other top 8 sides and see who has what breaks. Feels like we are getting this regularly.

Its why doing what we did Saturday night was crucial.

Throw Dan and Peds in the middle for the last quarter, throw Jones around the ball.

6 day breaks arent too bad considering this is our 3rd home game in a row.

Bond has been performing well almost all year, every game.

And for the record even though Bond has earned a crack I doubt he'll come in, way more likely we go Cumming/Jones and Smith to the sub IMO.

Firstly, the good on the weekend was outstanding. Dominant in every possible way.

Soligo was exceptional. Berry was terrific.
Curtin another huge tick, especially that last quarter in the midfield. Great move by coaches. We kicked 5 goals to nil in the last quarter despite rolling out our C grade midfield. Amazing.
Thilthorpe was.... well a level above the entire Port team.

There is however, one blatant and obvious concern - Pedlar. He's just not up to it. He offers nothing.
He is always the last to react, then sprints like crazy to get to the contest, arrives just after the ball has gone and then has to wait 5 minutes to get his breath back.
There is no way that Dowling and Draper don't offer more right now. Maybe Nankervis.

We have to try Dowling over the next few weeks and see if he can perform in the role. Would we lose anything if Dowling replaced Taylor and Draper replaced Pedlar? Would we gain?
Need to find out, because right now there are 1-3 positions that are still up for grabs and not yet settled.

Amazing transformation in just 3 weeks according to you.

Didn't look any different to the Willie Rioli that's been playing AFL for years...and Bond clamped him well.
Go on the Port thread regarding Willie. They all watch him far closer than us, and pretty much all they are talking about is how far he's fallen off in his conditioning.

Also, I'm a big Bond fan been wanting him to get a game all season. I'm just talking about Rioli here, not detracting from Hugh

Nankervis is clearly outperforming Dowling almost every week in the SANFL crrently and for that matter Draper as well.

True. I guess I'm thinking about the roles that Taylor and Pedlar play and trying to think who could offer more?
Interesting that Nankervis was being played as a forward in SANFL and Nicks talked him up before picking Pedlar this last time.
Nank could offer something interesting in that role.

I like Taylor, but he just doesn't get it enough to have an impact.

If we went:
IN: Nankervis, Draper
OUT: Taylor, Pedlar

and let this roll for the next few weeks, would we lose anything? I doubt it. I think we would be better.

I'd leave Cook in as well. His use of the ball is exceptional and I saw a few times on the weekend where he used his body well. I think he's developing and could become a damaging player.

Once Rash returns, the least impactful out of those guys makes way.

I think we still have some improvement left.

Nank concerns me a bit...esp vs Hawthorn - and the role we have for him. When they belted us at the MCG last year, the likes of Dylan Moore (who kicked 5 that day) were bullying him non-stop. It felt as though Nank was targetted to me at the time. I'd probably prefer Bond or even Edwards - as they're a little more nuggety and may not be a push-over - especially in that sort of match up. I like Nank, as long as he's not thrown into defence....

Same when we play Pies in three weeks...they get an 8 day break and we get 6. My main concern with these 6 day breaks is that it always seems to be against the contenders - that's when you'd rather a decent break, with shorter breaks against the also-rans...

Interestingly I think those are Peatling's first coaches votes for the Crows. He's the 22nd player to get a vote this year from the club. The only players who played this weekend who don't have a vote yet are Taylor, Pedlar, Cook and Jones, so the clear last 4 selected. Rachele, Cumming and Butts have votes too and missed through injury.

The other players who have played this year and not received a vote have all been intentionally left out: Crouch, Nankervis, Smith, Sholl, Draper, Murphy and Borlase.

😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

January 25 nice try but no cigar tryhard.

Long long long before Crouch copped his latest injury and you know it.

There is no way Matt comes in anytime soon and then it would only be if we cop injuries to our current starting mids.

Unlike some I've always rated Sam Berry and now people are starting to see the burst speed I'd seen as a junior....one day you'll likely see the hops I've spoken about also now he has the confidence to take the game on.

I referred to him taking the game on out of the stoppage about 3 posts later. Preaching to the converted.

Seems to happening at a level that is not accidental...Or maybe that's just my expectations of the Vic scum

It has to be Nicks voting for Curtin, making sure he wins the RS
Can you get in trouble as a coach for making truly nonsensical selections with this stuff?

I'd be tempted to. Name players that aren't in the team. Name the boundary rider. Name Boak, as best for Crows.

I'd be super famous with my antics for a while before I got fired.

I could see someone like Ross Lyon naming an umpire as BOG.
