Why can’t Cumming play Michaelanny‘s role?

We’ve been saying all season Cumming has been played out of position and hasn’t been lighting the wing position on fire. Here’s a chance to get him into defence.

Nah, would require a few more injuries. Otherwise Smith is done in the AFL side. The club has realised that what he brings doesn't fit with the way they want the side to play.

Honestly some people on here have massively overrated Smith's performance this season. His performance has been alright relative to his age and recent seasons, but statistically a significant portion of his impact has been through taking kick outs.

Smith has also been caught out, repeatedly, defensively.

Borlase is more of a stopping defender, which we will need for one of their three talls.

With Max missing 2-4 weeks it’s just not a stop gap fix to fill his role.

We’ve preferred Cumming on the wing so I don’t think we’d want to move him back for a 2-4 week block, plus is he a tight checking defender?

Smith is an option but we aren’t needing this player to be a rebounding player.

Nank hasn’t okayed defence for awhile and again isn’t a tight checking defender.

We need someone capable to play lockdown and given it’s a decent number of weeks, it should Bond.

You dont often see Murray or Keane on the bench.

Playing Borlase as well as those 2 is suicide against a speedy front half.

There is zero chance the Crows play all 4 of Keane, Murray, Worrall and Borlase.

Key defenders rarely get rotated off.

Out of all the Crows players this year, Keane has the highest TOG percentage (94.6%), with Murray second (89.5%) and Worrell 4th (87.2%).

Heck, even Borlase rates as the 8th highest Crows player for TOG percentage (84.0%) and his tank has been one of his limiting factors.

So unless you're having Borlase sitting on the bench for 3/4 of the game, you would have all 4 of them on the field at the same time. Given Borlase is not known for his agility, that would be terrible.

No one is really sure, but thats where the spot opened up.

Milera and Laird have been fine at half back, and some weeks better than that. We shall see what this week holds.

Well unless one of Murray, Keane or Worrell don't play I would be absolutely astounded if Borlase comes in to replace Max's role or is even named on the bench.

Borlase is miles away, Smith is all but a certainty to come into the 23.
