Logically this all makes sense, but I’ve never seen flirting with form pay off in sport.

In the NFL teams routinely sit their players once they clinch, the superbowl champion Eagles did it this year against a divisional rival (and still won with their back ups).

The rationale there is that players are significant assets, and you would never risk injury to one for something that doesn't matter.

We don't have that same culture, but how would people feel if we go pedal down in these games and a significant player gets hurt (touch wood)?

Squad sizes relative to on field positions does make that easier to do.

I think weve missed a couple of opportunities through the year to rest a couple more. We seem to have gone the "manage TOG" route moreso

I don't know it's the squad size per se, but certainly game day there's more option: for example, you can play starters a half then sit them entirely and generally not put major guys at risk. That's hard with a four man bench.

Without being repetitive, I'd like to see some of the guys who have played full seasons get a rest and would have liked to see that this week.

But the injury risk tolerance I think might be just as valid a question, particularly for some of our higher profile guys who have an injury history like a Thilthorpe. I suspect that might be why Burgess gets a gig this week though: back up ruck option if we get well up and decide to put TT on ice for second half. I'd like to see that if its available.

If it wasn't for the pre-finals bye I'd say yes. I actually think it's probably a detriment to not have the continuity of game time though. If you rest against Collingwood you're potentially playing 2 games in 6 weeks prior to a prelim. Don't teams mostly struggle immediately after a bye these days?

Adelaide, Brisbane and Carlton all won after their bye. Got bored, not checking any more and don’t know if their opponent was also off a bye.

How is resting players to improve them flirting with form? Do you think we’re flirting with form by resting Tex this week? What damage do you think it’s going to cause?
We’ve got an opportunity next week to go out and try to beat (what I think will be) a fired up and red hot contender for the premiership. That’s what you want before finals, not 2 dead rubbers and a game that you don’t think matters.

Taylor doesn't kick goals, doesn't tackle. Sid has played 2 full(ish) games and 7 as the sub and has 3 goals and 22 takcles. Taylor has played 12 games for 2 goals and 27 tackles.

Well 5 tackles, 1.1 and 20 disposals. Made me out to look like a bit of a muppet.

Really impressed with his game. His handball back to Soligo which lead to Pedlar's 2nd goal was brilliant and showed his footy IQ.

Well - F you Taylor. I apologized damnit. You looked good against the worst team in the AFL with your 20 touches and 1 goal.

Then I look at it. Since may 25th - (excluding your game against the worst team in recent AFL history) you have played 8 games. 1 goal and an average of 6 touches. Are you Murphy.

*As I type this he kicks a bloody goal.
