Genuinely flat. Murphy is the worst 100 game player I've ever seen. That he's getting a game when we need to win to ensure a home qualifying final.. how does no one at the club stand up to Nicks and say you're just flat out wrong.
Murphy is obviously in Nicks’ plans for finals. I’m guessing he’s a fan of Murphys mythical defensive pressure. We will effectively be going into a final one player short. Nicks is so out of his depth.

Which means Dowling will replace Murphy next week……

How about when he said Murphy has been playing the Pedlar role
Murphy couldn’t play the Pedlar role if he had a bike.

I'm glad they asked re: Draper and Dowling. Davis' answer was that Schoenberg and Murphy being travelling emergencies the week prior actually helped their case for selection because it meant they had "fresh legs".

So, yes, as I posted earlier in the thread, Dowling's mistake was taking the field in the first place.

So we're worried about player management

Surely it's better to have slightly less fresh but capable legs, than fresh legs that would be just as effective chopped off from the player in question

Dowling was behind Schoenberg last week. I don’t think it’s reasonable that Dowling goes past Harry because Harry travelled. He was clearly next man up

"Just keep performing and you'll get your chance... No not like that. Now you'll be too tired."

' Murph needs a run over the next 2 weeks so he has strong AFL legs and has the speed of the game at his fingertips ''

I get triggered by sycophants who just post crap defending the club, yes that’s true. I don’t understand why grown adults can’t have an opinion beyond “I support the club and will defend every decision”

He’s spent his career there, doesn’t make him a forward, the fact he’s had 7 years trying and failing is damming of the coach you keep defending who has got him to 119 games.

Surely you can see the stupidity of it? Please tell me you can and you’re not that footy ignorant
My opinion is that I don't think Murphy should play, he doesn't offer much but there must be a reason he is in the side. Be it structural, leadership, doing what the coach instructs etc. I don't understand it, but I'm certain the reason isn't "because Nicks is stupid" I'm just not that basic.

Making reductive arguments about Murphy not being a forward because he wasn't good at it to somehow mentally shoehorn Cook in as a forward made me smile. I'm sure Lachie remembers how to operate in the forward line despite being a mid this year in the SANFL.

So you’re opinion is you don’t agree with it, you don’t understand it but you accept it because the coach made the decision.

The same coach that selected him 4 times this year and Murphy failed every single time. Yes we should just trust the coach. What’s the definition of insanity? Doing the same things over and over and expecting a different result. Well you have 119 examples of why Nicks is either insane or stupid.

Murphy may have played many games as a forward but he has shown time and time again he’s no good at it.

Do you think Dowling couldn’t play the Murphy role?

Cook also played wing and pretty sure that’s what he was doing in his best game before he was knocked out.
I can’t believe what Murphy has is so valuable that overrides what he doesn’t do in games, yet he’s not picked that often so it can’t be that valuable. It’s baffling, it really is.

So shouldn’t they be resting SANFL players here and there?

After lamenting about the selections, I've dug to my deepest to try and rationalise them . Here goes...

Collingwood have been found out lately by speed and pressure. Their defence is being widely criticised and they've many proud players under the microscope because of form and or effort.

Murphy and Schoenberg are somewhat similar players. Headless chickens but at least with some dash and, in the Schoenberg case, speed. Murphy does try his guts out with his smothers and attempts being a feature. At the least, he'll force the magpie defence to remain under as much pressure as possible.

I'm not expecting either of our guys to win the game by themselves but I hope they help create an environment where our match winners can succeed.

I'm expecting Collingwood to produce an ugly scrapping game and then try to win an arm wrestle. I wouldn't be surprised if 70 points is a winning total tonight.

I think we are splitting hairs but to me it’s what he seems in Murphy that’s the issue.

And that lack of identifying the right talent which leads to his shit selections is why he should not be a senior coach.

Let him play to his strengths of bonding with the players but he is not senior coach material.
Murphy has played 119 games of AFL and averages 11.59 disposals.

Luke Nankervis has played 31 games and in games where he's not sub or subbed, he's recorded fewer than 11 disposals twice.

Billy Dowling has played 9 games. He has never recorded fewer than 11 disposals. He can't play because he's "not a forward". He has kicked 4 goals from 9 matches (0.44 goals a game).

In the past 2 years Murphy has played 18 full games. He recorded fewer than 11 disposals in 6 of those games. As a forward, he has kicked 7 goals from 18 full games at 0.38 goals a game (I have excluded sub games out of fairness).

Its nice to see the stats back up the 'eye test' that Murphy should not be anywhere near an AFL team.

Murphy's selection says more about how they see Pedlar than anything else. because they were basically polar opposites when getting regular game time together. Murphy pressure only. Pedlar mostly offensive and little pressure (different from being "hard at the ball" or any subjective assessment of his toughness, which is undoubtable).

It doesn't make a lot of sense to swap one for the other. The only rationalisation I can think of is that they expect Zac Taylor's recent upward trend to continue, and offer more attacking output.

Also weird how there are this many spots for this sort of player.

With the results today, we're effectively playing to try to keep our bogey team out of the top four, and give us a likely qualifying final against Gold Coast.

We've chosen to go into that cut throat battle with our hands tied behind our back by picking a sub AFL player.

Still fuming 2 days later.

Will we see Murphy surpass his 2 disposal, 3 clanger game against the Demons? All us fans must have missed all the good things he did in that game.

I said at the time it wouldn’t be the end of him, and here we are.
I think we have all said that at least one hundred times after each individual match he has played.

Yes, he is the coach, if he fails he gets the sack. Pyke loved him too and West Coast trust that guy to run their entire club. Probably not.

I wish I knew what makes Murphy so valuable as well. I'm not sure if I want him to play well or not, but it doesn't seem to affect his selection.
