Has anyone got the actual timewasting rule? Does it make a difference that the umps had already called time off? Vader

It’s not prescriptive, it’s a free kick against if a ‘player unnecessarily causes a delay in play’. Like it or not, his action did that. Had he left the ball alone, the ump wouldn’t have had to run to get it and return back as it was 2m from him when TT kicked it away.

But it is interpretational, not mechanical. It depends on the umpire’s view, it’s not clear like a tackle being high or a fist not connecting for a handball.

So in a Rowie reversal, it’s not a free kick because the umpire didn’t think TT had unnecessarily held up play.

What he was ‘trying’ to do is irrelevant. Umpires can’t make decisions based on their interpretation of intent, nobody intends to tackle high. It was a free kick, sometimes they fall our way.
Is it supposed to be a free kick when a player throws the ball back to the umpire for a ball up but fluffs the throw? Genuine question.

The thing that seems to favour Darcy and TT is their work in the ruck

Structure matters, sometimes they’ve gone with 2 rucks, that would allow Jezza, any other KPF and maybe Gunston as 3rd tall, leaving both pinch hitters out. But that would probably require another massive goal kicker to be up there with Cameron.

I don’t think that happened.
There was another ump behind the one he was aiming for.

Not if it's unintentional. Time Wasting is defined as "where a field Umpire is of the opinion that a Player is unnecessarily
causing a delay in play.
" No umpire is going to ping a player for fluffing a throw. If they deliberately throw the ball away from the umpire on the other hand...

He actually kicked it straight to the boundary ump. Just not the closest one.

I wonder what our coaches will make of our midfield?

They have had some very good moments over the season but been shaded by some of the better midfields recently, bailed out by a potent forward line and a well-structured defence. Sustainable?

Can Soligo, Peatling and Berry go head-to-head with the best midfields of the competition now?

It's too late in the season for any wholesale change eg adding Draper into the mix, so what's the tweak we can make now if we start getting beaten up inside?
Good point. They have to try Dowling IMHO. Over 70 possessions and 4 goals in last two games has to be rewarded. The thing is we have Laird and Max also to come back, so we could move Milera into the middle, as his skills have been excellent recently, and may just provide us with an edge there (even Max is an option). Bond's holding his spot well, so we're in a good spot down back. We've got Curtin up our sleeve too, and hopefully Rachele can get on the park for finals, as a chop out.

Nah gaz was as fired up as the first time he saw Billy’s Mrs

Like Billy’s missus, Gaz is always rooting for game on. Brian and Dwayno are classics, a team down by 10 goals kicks 2 straight and it they sound like they’re barracking. They’re not, their job is entertainment and nothing is less entertaining than a dead game. They’re not barracking for that team, they’re barracking for a game.

Mostly, at least.

BAD
Minor premiers
, probably
Good post :thumbsupv1:, but why is that "BAD" please? :confusedv1:
UGLY
Commentary
Umpiring
The game generally, not much beautiful footy in that one
The "commentary" was hardly-disguised adulation for Collingwood, especially Garry Lyon's effusive reactions to their first quarter. Nauseating .
Likewise their whiny disbelief re the I50 count; ok, it was 71 to 37 their way and they lost :hearteyes:.
Suck shit, inefficient Collingwood.
How about praising our mean defence, you twats?

The Umpiring absolutely bewildered me; first, their way, then ours when we got on top (great for us). Plenty of dubious handballs and obvious throws allowed to both sides. The Milera (? Curtin? Worrell?) tackle that was not paid htb and confused the hell outta the tackler, Dawson (who stopped, waiting for the obvious call) and me. Several other clear htb by both sides, not paid. The RT kick of the dead ball, last 1/4, no free. Lucky!

The game generally was ugly, a poor spectacle/rolling maul, compounded by pressure in the wet, difficult wet-ball-handling but I was super-happy to get up in another close one against those smug campaigners.

8 wins in a row, is that right? FnBEAUTY, I say :D:hearteyes::hearteyes:.
11 wins out of the last 12 games? Fantastic!! That kind of winning is soooo different from the previous 5 years and so much more fun.

Finally, we're top and will be Minor Premiers if we beat NM <== unthinkable to me, 12 games ago.

You think Naughton and Darcy no chance despite averaging more goals than TT?
Darcy has missed too many games.

Thilthorpe goals combined with goal assists is top 2 & then he rucks 20% of the time too.

Naughton competing with Gunston for a place.

The whole concept of timewasting is ridiculous. The clock stops when the ball goes out.
Games have been getting longer, as a result of increased and longer stoppages. Yes, the clock stops, but the amount of taken to complete the game does not. The latter is the reason why time wasting is an offence, and rightly so.

I'd be very, very, suprised of Bond isn't the one to drop out when Max returns.

Bond has been good in Max's absence, but he's clearly the last one selected from our defensive group.

Watching the replay, Nick Daicos thumped Brodie Smith in the chest first, Smith did the same, but because Daicos clutched his chest and fell to his knees staging like a softc***, he got the free. Pathetic.

Most likely what happened was the umpire wasn't watching them for the first one, then the scuffle caught his attention, and Smith's hit was the first clear one he saw. Happens all the time.

I finally got around to watching this one. I couldn’t watch it last night. Some things we were really lucky with was a few umpiring decisions. Mind you it’s about time it went our way for a change.

Our forward entry was definitely sub par, both in numbers and in delivery which was very uncharacteristic of us. I thought Berry wasn’t as influential as he has been, but everyone has a “down” day. I also thought using Murphy on Daicos paid off really well. But we definitely don’t want another Massie v Franklin where Massie did well one time and Franklin destroyed him the next.

No injuries is a great result too.

Even though I knew the end result, I still felt nervous watching that replay lol! I mean holy crap! That was insane!
