Review R3 Geelong - Positives and Negatives: I need new pants edition

its so bizarre as the call was a goal so it needed to be clear that it was touched and you can't get that from that.
So its like they just took the least damaging option of a point in a crucial stage.
It was a truly disgraceful decision. The goal umpire called a goal, it was a goal (as it was touched before Masten kicked it quite clearly), and yet they overruled the goal umpire incorrectly. It changed the momentum of the game (or at least kept Geelong's momentum going). Has the AFL commented on it yet and said it was a terrible decision? It's like the DRS in cricket, should only be overruled if it is clear that the decision was incorrect.

don't die waiting for a comment

Does Simmo still interview on 6PR on a Monday? Nothing on the WCE website but they have plenty of other interviews, including JK regularly on 6PR.

The problem is that his misses are usually at critical spots on the field one on one with a dangerous small forward.

You ideally want ultra consistent, disciplined guys like N Jetta/N Smith to play that role.

I still think he looks better in a pack rather than one out in space guarding a small forward

Spot on and why I think he could be an interesting run with option in the guts, or as a negating HFF.

Really pleased and a little surprised that both Rioli and Ryan look pretty comfortable when they find themselves in the middle or deep down the wing.

Its' good to see them throwing tackles and bursting out of a pack, was worried Ryan was too lean n' boney and might get injured, but he's not intimidated and he's had a fair bit of experience already. The Mitchell+Berlo combo would definitely be having an influence in the different style of play. Rioli steadily improving each game. The coaches 'player versatility' plan is apparent.
WHY OH WHY did Simmo insist on leaving Yeo back nearly the whole game! Even when we were getting flogged in the 3rd he was still left back.
He said with Duggan a late out, it affected their shuffle a bit, was forced to put Yeo back in his old spot, said he could've swung him to the mid a bit earlier perhaps. Also said Duggan plays a really important role for us...Hutch is a mr. fixit comes in as required-horses for courses. But Yeo was a beast when he got wound up in last qtr. The tackling has improved this season, real intent.
Whats up with Gov+Barrass, not at same level as late last season..slow starters? quality opposition?
The Cats game, their pressure and hardness was a good learning curve for the newbies and that large stadium pressure-cooker environment will set them up for playing away esp at MCG. We should put that
'away' jinx behind us..

Oh crap looks like Ryan is set for extended time on the side lines. Poor bloke was looking good and he did it kicking a goal bugger. Curse you footy gods.

Thought Ryans desperation to score that crucial goal which resulted in his injury, truly shows just how much he really wants to succeed at AFL level.
Pity about the injury, but if this is what he can do in 3 games of AFL, then he's got a very promising and exciting career ahead.

I'm going to start with a negative:

Positives: As soon as Yeo was moved on ball it had an IMMEDIATE effect on momentum, morale and the energy of the play. Sure his effect was magnified by Geelong's depleted bench but I find it confusing that they would wait that long to put a player of his calibre on ball to help stem the tide.

Yeo and Shepherd helped win that last 10 mins in my opinion, watch it again and see Yeo all over it. Sure the goal kickers did their part but they were riding the wave that the re-energised engine room was providing.
totally agree with this, almost like Yeo was stoked to be put in the middle and say to the coaches "check this out boys".
should be a big message our coaches better not ignore

Duggan will be back this week. Yeo to the midfield.

That being said Yeo hasn't really imposed himself this season as yet. It's nice to have such a big ace up your sleeve.

Even Sheed and Redden haven't truly hit their straps as yet.

Lot of improvement to come for us still!
