Review R3: The Good, Bad and Ugly vs. North Melbourne

A serious amount of hate (potentially some trolling too) towards the Crows in the match day thread on the MB I haven’t seen for quite a while! Not even from North supporters either.

People must actually fear playing us again, nice.
Just means we're a threat - but even if we win the next couple I can still see opposition supporters claiming we've had a soft draw and not faced anyone of note.

THE FUTURE - on display
Third quarter highlight - Curtin beats three NM players to gather ball, dribble kick to Thillthorpe who handballs to Draper - GOAL
That play involving our recent first rounders was definitely my favourite goal of the game.

The only I thing I didn't like afterwards we didn't seem to turn up for the next few minutes as North got two goals immediately under no pressure at all with their No. 9 (LDU?) cutting us up. But we were able to steady and score the next 3 to finish off the quarter - in the past we crumble further and don't hit back.

The holding the ball against him was a total raffle though. Immediately preceded by several other rolls of the dice on tackles, and the worlds most random adjudication of a 15m kick.
What a bloody momentum killer that shocker of a decision was!

You know exactly what he means.

Look at this new crows strip I love it.

Ugh I hate gold

I had the best Vegemite sandwich for lunch.

Vegemite, gross.

What a brilliant chase down and smother by Worrell.

He ran too fast at the man, could have injured him

Funny thing is tv crew said nothing and it obviously hit post

😂
It was not a snick or a glancing blow.
The ball hit the post hard. The kicker (Fog? ANB) and all behind him saw it hit the post and waited for the kick-in.
Two fingers, two flags :drunk:.
I don't recall where the goal Umpire was standing. Worst non-call of a point I've ever seen.
(fwiw, I thought the Tex L-foot snap kicking N. was touched j-u-s-t inside the line of the post padding --- a point, but very close call)
How've you been, mate, all good?

That whole passage of play and then the decision against Sholl was just insane umpiring. It's the sort of stuff that puts people off the game due to inconsistency.

It sort of felt scripted with the umpire thinking, 'yeah I'll pay that one and really rile everybody up', just for the drama...
I feel like umpires lose their bearings at times

Eg are aware of a strong home crowd influence and become hyper conscious of not being swayed by that.

They go away from calling things as they see them. Go out of their way to not be influenced by the crowd or scared of being booed.

Doesn't seem to happen in reverse when we go to Melbourne though

Walker has had some patches this season when it looks like the game is passing him by but he's then bounced back with some trademark smarts, touch and skill.

He was very good after a shaky start yesterday. Clunked a couple of nice marks, party trick F50 ruckwork on show

Do we give him the Gold Coast trip off?

Six day break into the Gold Coast game, followed by a five day break into Gather Round. Too much if we're expecting full games from him? Nine day break after that, home to GWS.

I think it's probably the right thing to do. It's the least likely game for a win in this stretch, and Tex is old. Equally, we probably want to set up to hit the Geelong and GWS games hard to really make AO a fortress this year.

Also, it's a good way to get Sid involved - especially as the North game gives a bit of confidence he could do a solid job as a small forward (2 goals/4 tackles/16 pressure acts) and we're probably going to need to replace Rachele as well.

Yeah.
My mate and I were sitting behind the shot and were stunned when it was signalled a goal then two-flagged.
It hit the R-inside of the L post and deviated at least half a metre.
My son and I were watching it on TV and were confused as well. Took a massive deviation and the Channel 7 commentary didn't even give a hint of a reaction that it might have hit the post. We thought we must have been imagining things.

David King raised a good point on First Crack last night that if he’s playing the 3rd forward option role what he does is brilliant especially in terms of score involvements as he said the the 3rd option in all teams actually doesn’t touch the ball that much in all other teams (Which is true but Tex still had moments yesterday where he jumped in front of Thilthorpe and Fogarty thinking he was still the main man down there, just needs to pull his head in at those times).

He surely wouldn’t be able to play off a 5-day break so it’s whether they want him against Gold Coast or Geelong, Nicks raised it at the end of his presser without prompt about resting him so you’d be leaning at this stage that they probably won’t play him this week.

Pretty sure commentators on kayo saw it straight away and were laughing at fog for celebrating

Dirty day

Pathetic

Milera - just a weak defender

Sholl - learn how to tackle you soft coxk.. just hopeless all day with the softest tackle attempts you’ll ever see. Total liability

ROB - you arent a talented footballer and you arent a midfielder once the ball gets on the ground.. you need to get out of the talented guys way..

And our seniors like laird and keays need to stop calling for the footy when the player that has it is a better decision maker, is in a better position and has more talent.

The maaggot umpires.
Pretty kind to Fog mate. 6 possessions and both goals were Joe the goose recipients. Wasn’t a big game for the Fog after a lively first 2 weeks

Yep, still kicking over here. Hope all is well your way

I couldn't hear the commentary because I was helping my kids with something in another room, and as such had the Ch 7 feed on at that point. Saw it deviate massively and thought "Bugger." Then looked back a few seconds later and saw them go to ads. I was sitting there like... huh? I started thinking "Did it just happen to hit part of the stand that looked like it was right behind the post?" Felt like I was taking crazy pills.

It's been about 336 hours of joy and happiness and I'm wary that we still haven't beaten a good team and might be getting ahead of ourselves.
St. Kilda’s last 2 games have looked alright

Surprised at the lack of love for Rankine's game in this thread.

Perhaps our expectations are too high, but he just went about his business racking them up all day, be keen to see the coaches votes, for mine;

Soligo
Hinge
Rankine
Thilthorpe
Worrall

We can only beat who we play, and to be honest just doing that convincingly in different ways is a step up on last year. Looking at the first 4 weeks pre-season I had us 2-2, winning home and losing away. The honeymoon is over now though. Hard work time starts.
