I wouldn't be opposed to some sweeping changes just to get some of the depth out of our side. As good as Dowling and Edwards have been, bringing them in at the expense of more experience players will just backfire.

OUT:
  • Pedlar (Concussion saves him from being dropped anyway)
  • ROB (forever, I'm genuinely a better kick than this guy)
  • Jones (forever and ever)
  • Maley (I just don't quite see it like some on here do, a bad Fog game is still better than him. That awful kick from 50m in the dying minutes was embarrassing for a forward no matter your experience)
  • Bond (No class, plays a role we don't need right now. Lock down 1v1 small defenders are a thing of the past. Needs to work on his offensive game in the SANFL)
  • Taylor (Harshest one, I just don't see it in him, he'll never be a player that can find the footy consistently)

IN:
  • Hinge (Need some class off half back alongside Milera, everyone else kicks it as far as possible with no thought)
  • Laird (Missing a settled head down back that can at least find the football, probably frees Max up more to play looser)
  • Cumming (Not playing that well but another experienced head who can just play his role more consistently)
  • Fogarty (So important for structure, makes Tex's and Thilthorpe's lives so much easier and at least we can still bank on him for a goal or 2 if he's not playing well. Added bonus this is the perfect game vs Carlton to maybe build some form)
  • Draper (Perfect time to give him a run in the big leagues, weaker opponent on our home deck. We can't waste this opportunity)
  • Dowling (I can see him doing exactly what Taylor does just better, personally I'm not sure why Taylor is ahead of him)

Keays and Soligo are definitely down on form but their bad games are better than some of our depth players good games. We're playing for flags, not rebuilding. Dropping Keays and Soligo for Dowling and Edwards as some have suggested would genuinely make me tip Carlton. Too much inexperience, last time we did that we lost to an awful Richmond side at home.

Laird doesn’t free anyone up to be more attacking, it’s the opposite.

If there is any remote bit of selection integrity left at the Crows (which is extremely doubtful) then Keays needs to be dropped.

That was one of the more disgraceful selfish 'performances' you will see in a while.

I really wish we had an actual quick skilful pressure forward... :praying:

Out:
ROB, Jones, Nicks (forever, look into one way Iran plane ticket cost vs contract payout)
Soligo (needs something to change whether it’s mental of physical)
Keays (maybe Bearded Clam was right all this time? Needs a football brain)
Pedlar (concussion saves him from being dropped)
Maley (good vibes guy and can clunk but can’t kick)
Nicks (deserves a second mention)

In:
Fog, Cumming, Dowling, Edwards, Hinge, let’s face it it’s probably going to be Laird, use of the centre corridor

(Dis)honourable mention(s):
ANB - carn lad lift. You’re a premiership player and a leader
Rankine - hasn’t been the same since he was convicted of war crimes for saying a mean word and forced to go on an apology tour to all and sundry
Max - where has the Ben Hart 2.0 disappeared to?
Murray Davis - you were the chosen one. Get it together son!!

One of Keays or Soligo need a rest, both well down. One saved because of Pedlar concussion

Out: Pedlar, ROB, Jones, Bond, Keays
In: Edwards, Cumming, FOG, Laird, Murray

Pull the trigger you would drop Soligo as well and bring in Dowling or Draper
Murray? How many mediocre talls do you want out there?

for whatever reason, I haven't been overly harsh on Jones in the past , and while I've understood the criticisms that many have thrown his way, I guess I've been hoping that something would click

tonight's game though, basically sums up his career - dropped when on 99 games; late recall that means absolutely no fanfare for his 100th and then he produces that performance - it actually makes me feel sorry for him

Not sure why you would feel sorry, he has probably earnt close to $2.5m - $3m over past 8 years. More than what most would probably earn over a lifetime.

The girl who was the 3/4 kick through the promotional raa goals kicked it better than ROB.

There were 10 year olds in the mini game at half time that could kick better than him.

Why has he not learnt to kick in his entire time on the list why isn't there a coach specifically working with him on kicking it's a disgrace we've just let the weakness go unchecked.

Adam Kelly backing up the selection of ROB and that they broke even in the ruck duel. Refuse to admit their mistakes.

Anyway, Carlton only play Pittonet so absolutely no reason for ROB to play this week.

My changes:

Out: ROB, In: Fog
Out: Jones, In: Cumming
Out: Pedlar, In: Edwards
Out: Borlase, In: Hinge

Hinge may be underdone but will give us back some of our right/left balance. Having Worrell, Hinge, Dawson down the left side will help vary up the angles of our F50 entries.

Not sure how Carlton will line up with Weitering & Dean out. Perhaps McGovern goes back? Either way, good enough reason to keep Maley in and go tall up forward.

I wouldn't drop Borlase I would look at Keays or Bond to allow Hinge in

He's improved his set shot goal kicking and that's about it.

It's not just his kick though. He is a bad handballer that frequently puts our mids under pressure, and his tap work is one dimensional dross that doesn't factor in the position of our mids. He's had long stretches where he can't mark the ball either.

He might offer leadership and the ability to play lots of game time without getting injured, but it's an indictment on our recruiting that we've stuck with a player that can't execute the game's fundamentals for so long.

This idea that rucks are unimportant so you can play just about anyone also doesn't work if the ruck you choose cannot execute the simple stuff to an acceptable standard

Adam Kelly is just another part of our problem. Symbolises mediocrity.

Borlase needs to remain til Butts is back.

Carlton Don't have 3 tall forwards so Borlase doesn't need to play.

Carlton won't have Weitering either, so if we move the ball quick for the whole game our 3 talls should be beating that Carlton defence easily.

If you go slow and allow Carlton the time to get back and team defend it makes it much harder for our forwards.
