We've gone from hard to make a change to being able to change up half the side in a week. I guess the Saints exposed weakness we already knew about that Essendon and Geelong failed to exploit. Too slow, not physical too many poor kicks mostly.

Our problem is not too many bad players, it's too many ok players. Most of our mids are 15-20 possession mids. Not 25-30 possession mids. A lot of our good defenders still get scored regularly on. A lot of our best forwards are too inconsistent and one trick. There aren't too many players who win plenty of it and are damaging with their possession and we aren't physical enough. A lot of the problem with our side is blokes playing in prime positions who are still amongst our better players but are just ordinary by league standards.

Anyway, a shakeup is good for a team that needs motivation. Bring in some youth and some speed and a couple of harder at it blokes and lets see what we can do better.

Changes
Gibbons on the ball. Always plays as a half forward who pushes into the midfield. He's not an outside mid, he's a centerman. That's where he played all his good VFL footy and that's why when he pushes to a stoppage he nearly always has an impact. He's hard at it and has the intensity and hands under pressure to be a centerman. Got to get him in the center, not playing as an extra mid.

McGovern to defence. His brother is a gun defender so why not Mitch? Has all the tools. He's much quicker than plowman and plays a lot taller/stronger and will give us more as a lose man. He's giving us very little up forward and Plowman is being exploited most weeks in defence. Two birds, one stone here. Only question is whether he is good enough below his knees.

Honey and Philp in. They run and they tackle and they seem to be able to play footy. Pick them and lets see. Philp went a lot better against St Kilda. Honey has had a lot of good things said about his game. Got to try something.

Kennedy I want in, I know he will give more physicality than some. Try him as a tagger, try him in the center and see if he can do it. We know he can play forward. Has what we lack, he knows when and where to lead.

Stocker. Just play him. He can kick and he has aggression. He'll go harder than SPS and he can have a run on the ball.

B: Docherty Jones McGovern
HB: Simpson Weitering Williamson
C: Martin Cripps Murphy
HF: Silvagni Casboult Cuningham
F: Honey McKay Betts
OB: Pittonett Gibbons Curnow
IC: Philp Kennedy Setterfield Stocker

OUT
Plowman - The opposition all know it, they play through him every week, take him to the goalaquare and expose him for pace or strength/height. He's too slow to play smaller and be a rebounder. Just another player who is ok but not great.

Walsh - He's been bloody ordinary this year, now is the time to give him a wake up call because he was unsighted against St Kilda. It will be good for him to get that wake up call. If he gets picked next week it's on name and not on form.

SPS - Been uninterested in physical contact all season, hasn't played well at all and was very poor against the Saints. Time to go back and earn the spot, come back a better player. Needs a wake up call.

Newnes - He's been mediocre all season, slow and I can't see what he adds to the side apart from laying the odd good tackle and he had none of those against St Kilda.

IN
Silvagni - We know he competes and knows where to run, he'll be good for our forward line or midfield because he's tough, he tackles and knows where to be.

Kennedy - Keeps dominating reserves practice, we should give him a go, was good last year and he looks fit. See if he can give a bit on the ball. If he can tag as good as Curnow then that gives us an upgrade on Curnow who can kick.

Honey - Gets talked up a lot, has pace, does well in the reserves so may as well try him out.

Fisher - he might just give us some intensity and spark.

Might be some surprises to some as there are quite a few players here dropped who are in most people's best 22 but for me it's a no brainer. Drop the ones who aren't performing and doing what needs to be done. Try some who might. Forget the names.

Canā€™t remember, do the Dogs tag Cripps or just let him run with the Bont and see who wins?
Don't think the dogs tag anyone - from memory though did Dunkley go head to head with Cripps?

We have actually been alright against the Bulldogs the 5 or so years. Always seem to trouble them with our tall forwardline and were unlucky not win the second game against them last year.

Fisher needs to come back in if fit, and it'd be nice to see Walsh return back into a permanent midfield role. We need his smarts and follow-up around the stoppages.

Very, very winnable game.

Bulldogs similar to Saints.. finding their mojo, fast and aggressive.

Outs:
SPS: wake up call needed!
Newnes: couldn't wake up against your old mob and show them what they let go!
McKay: injured/sore/whatever no point having you there doing nothing - rather replace you with someone who can run through the middle for the moment.
Filpe: 2 games, you taste and go back and show us you crave more.

Ins:
Fisher: de-gastro'd and ready to go.
SOS: hopefully should be ready
Kennedy: sounding like he's deserving of a chance and can switch mid/fwd when required
LOB: pace and see if he can do what SPS hasn't

emg: Stocker => SOS/Fisher not ready he's in... tempted to swap him for Gibbons but feel rushing too many players not having played in the 1's this year might be a stretch.

Bulldogs by 30.

Out:
Cripps once again well beaten by Steele - 2 bad weeks in a row
Docherty - well beaten by Geary who has barely kicked a goal in his life
Weitering - beaten by a kid with barely a game to his name
Casboult - didn't fire a shot, goal kicking still a major worry.
Pittonet - taken to the cleaners by Marshall

Who cares as long as they are different.

Gee Whiz there are some hot takes on here.

ins and outs will not make one iota of a diference with our prospects for next week. we just couldnt handle the five day break it was clear. we were sluggish. our two wins caught up with us. saints arent that good really.
Saints looked up and about off the same 5 day break think your giving the side an out here .
Simply they wanted it more the result was a predictable Carlton performance .

Yeah thatā€™s what I meant we didnā€™t handle the 5 day break weā€™ll but they did. I donā€™t know if that is because the saints had a better training program to suit the shorter break or our players were just too exhausted with the previous too wins or just took training a bit more lightly.

Exhausted?? 6-3 to 4-3 second half our way , at some stage the players need to take responsibility and rectify the first quarters .
The lack of energy and physicality in these starts will render losses more often than not imo .

cripps had 23 touches and a goal. relax. king had 6 touches and one of them should have been a free kick to weiters. chill. geary had 6 touches and one goal was on sps. 20 touches in a full game is 25. Chill the * out. Marshall is the best young ruck in the game.

Agree - the ponly negative is playing at 6.45 on the Gold Caost - expecting it to be really dewy.

Dewey or wet helps us. Brings the oppo skill level down to ours.

That's why we are better at MCG and even Kardinia this year than Marvel. We are not a slick side, we are a grind it out side atm.

I'll take 6.45 outdoors.

Going to play Dogs at neutral VIC venue anyway and better playing Port at Gabba than feral SA fortress. All good

And playing the Dogs at an outside venue, rather than on the fast track at Marvel.
A couple of wins for us really.

Woooosh!

You must have missed the last line of Macca's post.

We're getting a decent break between games. Gives us time to really get over the disaster from last night and focus on the Dogs. Think this is a real 50/50 game. Can't see us beating Port though.
Yeah nah.
I can cos they will be worn down
Homesick
And due to lose after a giant wining streak.
