I am very concerned about bringing Johnson in. Especially if he goes forward.

The Eagles look slow and we look quite quick atm. McGovern looks out of sorts and very slow (possibly struggling with the wider grounds of late, Subi was like standing in a hallway for him!)

Johnson won’t be able to chase or put on any forward pressure, he can’t take contested marks and he can’t play on a key forward if A Pearce goes forward.

I think we need to either go full on mosquito or throw someone forward who can take a grab. I think the only choice is A Pearce forward (which Fyfe has hinted at). Hamling on Kennedy, Johnson to Waterman and Ryan on the big soft shell crab (darling).

I thought you were all mosquitoes.
On a serious note I think you guys are playing good football and if our midfield don't come out even with yours then it could be a long hard day. On the other hand if Shuey, Yeo and Gaff have a good day then it should be a good game. Hope we inject Petrol in for this one.

Johnson will come in and pinch hit in the ruck. He did it last season successfully during our winning run why not again.
Johnson for Tabs. Johnson has played forward , if I remember he kicked an important goal in one of the early wins last season.
Duman must stay and play if Hill misses again.

Duman's run and skills were impressive. His defensive work one on one, decidedly less so. E.g. One of their junk time goals he allowed a smaller opponent to clear him out of the ball drop and kick an easy goal.
I think we could have a pretty good player in Duman but he is going to need games and if we need three tall defenders to match up properly with WC he is not one of them. We have lost 5 derbies in a row. The rebuild can wait a week I think.
This is what i think we will do:
Out: Tabs (inj), Duman
In: Johnson, Kersten.

Kersten is our only experienced forward and also the best runner. I think our plan will be to switch and run from defence and spread from centre contests to allow space and time to hit forward targets with precise kicking. To at all costs avoid bombing. Cox one out against McGovern and Barras will offer us nothing.

Disclaimer: I think Kersten is not up to it and if he doesn't make it as a defender he'll be gone. But we can only play with the cards we've been dealt.

But Johnson isn't the player he was anymore. Not sure Johnson's defence efforts (particularly one on one) are any better than Duman's. He's lost pretty much all his pace/agility. WC play a pretty tall forward setup but I don't think that means you have to matchup perfectly on them. I'd back in Ryan to run off Waterman and Duman to run off Lycett.

It’s the first time in a long time where no one deserves to be dropped.
Didn’t seem to be any injuries other than tabs so it will be a straight swap Johnson for Tabs.
If Hill returns, I struggle to think who would come out.
Tucker did some great things on the inside against the dogs and Langdon is now a lock for best 22.
As for the kids.... Keep them in for the next 12 yrs at least.

Come back to us when this petrol character has actually kicked a football. ;)
Don't pretend you don't know him. He was tearing it up in the aflx until he got injured. He kicked 4 goals last week in the wafl. Would be an ideal replacement for Ryan of the Liam variety. Would run rings around Fyfe before he gets a chance to set his hair right.

Nick named petrol means one thing to me and thats running out of it. But seriously never heard of him or sighted him on a footy field. Obviously nothing to get excited about .

I would much prefer Johnson come in and pinch hit in the ruck than put Pearce in the ruck. We really dont want our best backman copping knees in centre ball ups. It would be an absolute travesty if Pearce was hurt in the ruck. Put Johnson in the forward line and pinch hitting in the ruck.

That would be handy if we were playing duck, duck, goose.

Actually now that Shuey isn't getting his head high frees he kind of is playing duck, duck, goose.

I really liked the look of Petruccelle in his draft year, surprised he went as late as he did. I thought he was around the 25 mark. Even if it looks like Eagles didn't recruit what they needed (won't know now or anytime soon), they did get some bargains in him and Allen at their picks so was a bit of a win for them.

You like the name or his skill ? I mean petrol cell and Multimeter sound like handy tool for tradies .

He's the quickest player in the draft, for a start. Petruccelle ran 2.82 seconds for the 20-metre sprint at the start of the season at the TAC Cup testing day, and backed it up by winning the speed test at the NAB AFL Draft Combine with a time of 2.87 seconds (he hoped to go a little faster). Petruccelle is a player who uses that pace on the field, as well, regularly dashing down the wing and breaking the lines.

lol. It's a nickname that I gave him. I'd also give nickname to your players if I supported them.
Natalie and Susan come to mind for a couple of your players.

He has pretty good stoppage work and can move through traffic decently with his speed. The problem is his skills / disposal is pretty average. Will probably need to improve those for AFL level unless he just wants to look like a discount Billy Hartung.

It's a no brainer for me, Meek has to come in to help combat their 2 ruckman and give Sandy a break. Meeks last two outings for Peel (remembering they are sharing ruck duties down there) :--- last game , 12 disp,3 mark,17 HO 1 goal, previous 18 D 4M 23 HO 1 goal. He will compete and shows he can kick a goal. I would have him in the forward line playing Tabener's role and assisting Sandy in the ruck. No point putting in someone like Johnson who will get belted in the ruck and can't run. Meek is very mobile and can take a grab. Also i wouldn't rush Hill back in when the others have performed, his form has been very scratchy so far this year (missing targets regularly) and has caused his fair share of turnovers. However there were patches where he was starting to find form but with his injury and a big game coming up,i'm afraid he might be underdone as he has missed a number of games now. If he was to come in,like for like ,I would drop (reluctantly) Tucker who maybe doesn't appear to have much of a hurt factor or hit the scoreboard ,very much. The newbies are all really impacting our game and is much of the reason why we have improved.

This is a changes V Eagles thread , not an Eagles change thread. Know one on here gives a flying fart about this petrol head. Go away and post your drivel on the Eagles board.

Agree that there were knocks on his field kicking but in front of the big sticks he seems pretty good from what we've seen of him.
