Soligo missed 2 weeks toward the end of preseason while diagnosing what was wrong and only played one preseason game. Wouldn't be surprised if it also affected his training for weeks before he stopped training. He has been back to full training for the last 6 weeks and played all 5 games. They said they are working on a plan schedule to get him back to full fitness, time to move him back to the midfield or back to the SANFL to regain fitness if he still isn't fit.

Training tomorrow at Footy Park at 12pm. Main session for the week.
For those with kids and looking to do something in the holidays or just to get them outside.

It sounds like he probably had a cardioversion to shock the heart back into normal rhythm, which is a day procedure where you go home the same day then have a day or 2 off work
Modern Medicine is crazy-good.
Just before Covid I had a stent fitted in a minor (but 3/4 blocked) heart artery. Simple, bloody elegant procedure.
In Thursday morning, out the next and I had lunch with a mate that same day, Glenelg BBQ Inn (drool :sneaky:).

This makes no sense.

Why couldn't we just bring Fog in and not drop Maley because you are suggesting if we drop Maley because Fog comes in, we would then need to bring another player in (Rob) to do the ruck because Maley isn't there anymore.
The Saints have TWO genuine ruckmen in De Koning and Marshall. Big Mac can’t take on both of them, he will go head to head with de Koning which leave who to take on Marshall? Marshall is a genuinely good ruckmen but like ROB doesn’t have the leap to dominate in the centre square.

Do we really want Thilthorpe to spend a significant amount of game time rucking against Marshall? I don’t!

Marshall will be too good for Maley but at least moose will be competitive. If we bring in FOG then I wouldn’t be surprised to see ROB on Saturday night. Playing FOG, Tex, Maley and Thilthorpe makes our forward line too tall and too slow or Maley plays purely as a ruckman which is not his strength. If we are to select a second genuine ruckman then the only one we have is ROB

Maley is ideal when the opposition plays one ruck for 75%+ of game time so moose only needs to ruck 25% of the time against a back up ruck.

I guess we will find out on Saturday night.

Or just leave him at half forward?

Seems the best of all worlds, really. Still keep his skillset and let Soligo build up his fitness in a less demanding position. Equally, Sog is half forward fit, seeing he's had solid disposal and pressure numbers since moving.

Or just like Ned, Chayce was just never good enough. Jones always looked like a dear in the headlights when he got the ball, just doesnt have enough weapons outside of some decent speed. Jones, Ned and Hately, who we ended up with, were picked within 7 picks of each other. Wish we got that draft right. At least North matched our bid for Taryn Thomas.

Hately we did get from the PSD as a small consolation (and we did get an Izak Rankine down the line).

Bit of a shitter of a draft, but I do wonder just how much the state of the joint wrecked it. Does Jones develop in a system that is willing to give him 3-4 years away from the spotlight (and in a solid lineup) instead of thrusting him as a savior in year two in a team that is utter puss?

Id be resting Soligo this week.

No need to risk a guy already struggling a bit if he has to push through a sore ankle.

Opens up a spot for Edwards, but they'll probably bring Peds back in. Shift Cook to half back for Hinge and give Dowling a run on the wing for a few weeks to see what hes got, because its clearly too good for the SANFL

Dont want Dowling on a wing. Matt Crouch was never made to play a wing. Billy is an inside mid. Play him in the middle.

Soligo is coming off heart surgery, think he's going through fitness struggles.

Nah, the heart procedure would slow him down for less than a day or 2. There’s more going on with him. It could be that his preseason was managed heavily, but I don’t recall that from the reports.

bigman outside the heart procedure period, did Soligo do a full preseason?

Dowling is a straight line runner without the power of a Dangerfield, and doesnt defend well.

If he's going to make it at AFL level it wont be as an inside midfielder.

Looks like a few weeks away hasn’t properly cleared the old mechanism.

What ARE you babbling about? You posted that IF Fog came back in it WOULD mean Maley out, NECESSITATING the return of rob TO cover backup ruck DUTIES. The QUESTION posed to YOU was why drop Maley FOR Fog and bring ROB back IN when MALEY can just stay in THE first place.

Billy Dowling IS NOT an inside mid at AFL level, your Matt Crouch comparison is way off the mark. Both are accumulators but that's where the comparison ends, their methods are very different and only one's accumulation is proven at AFL level.

I don't know WHAT is going on IN this THREAD but I LIKE it

Anyway we only have ONE injured PLAYER so we only have ONE to get off the PRIORITY PICK LIST we established back in FEBRUARY.

SELECTION is not that HARD and is driven by THE SORT BUTTON in an excel SPREADSHEET

From memory he was with the rehab group for a bit and we all thought it was his groin again.

Could well have been.

The heart operation wouldnt have slowed him down as such, but it would be about how much it slowed him down prior to having it.

You would no doubt lose a bit of conditioning if you were struggling with it for a while.

In - FOG. Retain Maley

If Maley plays a similar role to last week (half his ToG as a forward, half as a back up ruck) then we will have four tall forwards; Thilthorpe, Walker, FOG plus Maley playing as a part-time fourth tall forward.
This structure produces a very slow front six and invites St Kilda to waltz the ball out of their defence.

Playing Maley purely as a ruck (similar to Toby Murray against Collingwood) means he will have reduced game time and doesn’t utilise his best weapon, contesting the high balls into our F50.

It is an option to use ROB as our second ruck with limited game time instead of Maley (not my preferred option).

My preferred option is to give FOG another week off (his form hasn’t been great). Maley will spend a bit more time in ruck and we will have two tall forwards (Thilthorpe and Walker) for most of the match with the option to occasionally run with three tall forwards.
