Fyfe has grunt in spades. Neale probably has as much as Cotchin too. Class through the middle could be just as important. Blakely has improved in that regard but Hill still has him covered by miles.

I've never thought of Hill as having grunt. Class, speed, quick hands, decent in traffic but to go up against Martin, Cotchin etc I reckon Blakely is more appropriate.

Hill is much better value running with the ball and kicking it inside 50. Thats what he's really good at. Blakely is a genius at stoppages and a bit of a bull. Precisely what we need inside against Richmond.

Why not both changing through the mid. Hill is no longer the skinny outside mid. Hill was in AA form last season playing the inside mid role. Hill can play both inside and outside.

If we get within half a dozen goals I’ll be happy that our structures are trending in the right direction.

I want Brayshaw, Cerra, Crowden an Banfield all getting some time in the middle tomorrow as well - will be great learning. Richmond are currently the clear #1 centre clearance team (and strangely the worst for stoppage clearances). Interesting that Crowden was listed as the Rover in the team line-up. It's highly unlikely he starts there though. Great seeing Cerra playing midfield a few times last week - can't wait to see more - he was exceptional working with Crowden to clear the ball and get lace out i50 delivery in the Peel pre-season games.

I think blunting their centre clearance work will go a long way to winning the game. So I'd be very happy to see Blakely and SHill rotating in there as well keeping Richmond's players accountable.

With Hughes in, I'd go for Blakely for some midfield time. Reckon Hill would be better as an outside runner either wing or half back - reckon Duman can be that runner type too.

One of our mids usually spends some time in the forward line to give leadership and direction as much as anything. Something unexpected. As we've brought in Cox to partner McCarthy, maybe instead of Fyfe or Mundy going into the forward 50m as they might predict it could be Neale that does it, as he did in the win against Melbourne last year. He was strong with his marking last week.

Kersten should remain a depth player so we can structure up a forward line worthy of challenging quality teams.

I'll be surprised if Connor 'The Vacuum' Blakely doesn't sweep the backline as per.
His anticipation and swoop on the spilled ball etc is key to our rebound with Luke and Nat.
Yanking him out of there to bung some imagined midfield hole is phantasmagorical.

The fact that the individuals in the middle weren't competing hard enough to win the contested ball isn't a reason to change personnel.
There's other approaches.

True, keeping the ball alive inside 50m is Richmond's strength. Once they get it in, their teamwork is on such a high level, they mostly find a way to work it around to get a shot on goal and Connor is very good at getting first possession of a marking contest. Thought his kicking last week was quite a few rungs below the standards he has set in the other games this year.

Do you think we could back our defenders to go one on one with the opposition and not use a spare this week. Pearce, Hamling, Ryan, Wilson, Duman, Hughes. Covering contested marking forwards isn't the threat this week.

I'm perfectly happy to play both in the midfield rotations. Hill can do whatever he likes as far as I'm concerned, its getting Blakely to a few centre bounces I really want to see. I know he's fantastic off half back, he's a natural footballer who will rack the ball up wherever you put him but I think he's potentially close to our most effective clearance player behind Fyfe and I'd like to see him utilised in there particularly up against Marting & Cotchin etc who are about the best in the business at the moment.

Defensive one on one's appear to be frowned upon and our spare is keystone to rebound so I reckon we'll stick with what we've been doing. Our backline is becoming a real strength and playing with greater chemistry each week as well.Today's game is going to be a serious test of their individual and collective ability.
Of course we could see SHilly and/or Connor through the midfield but I reckon Connor will be staying put today and for the foreseeable.
He's fantastic and a real drafting and development success story for the club.Great footballer who will drive the rebuild alongside our emerging bunch, wherever he plays.
As we draft and develop greater flexibility in our list and game day squads I imagine we'll see him in the middle more.
