It’s a stupid metric to be relying on after round 7, besides hanging your hat on 5th ignores we’ve won as many games as 10th, lost 3 from our last 4, beaten up on 3 shit teams which boosted our percentage. Lost a home game. Won 1 from 3 away games. Had our midfield smashed 2 out of 3 games. Had ROB smashed 2 out of 3 games. Been one of the few teams to have played with a very healthy best 23. Nicks.

Should I go on or are you going to keep relying on a silly metric?

And despite all this we are currently sitting better than 2/3rd's of the AFL.

You missed the "according to the most important metric" part - you know - the ladder.

What? That’s exactly what I just said, it’s what’s so absurd. According to you, being 5th on the ladder at found 7, makes you the 5th best side in the comp. It’s infantile.

There's no stats for this, but ROB would be the slowest kicker in the game. As in from the time he decides where to kick, to the ball actually hitting his foot. That he's played more than a decade of football without anyone fixing his kicking action is shameful

A bit shameful. Amongst other societal issues (lack volunteers, not enough carrying footy around playing gameboy phones etc) junior clubs going too hard for short term win/$$ (concentrating too much on tactics, not caring if Obrien can't kick as long as win hitouts etc) at expense of development. Sounds bit like Crows.

How much are we looking for Afl clubs to improve natural foot kicking, 5, 10% at best? Ball drop bad technique habits and all developed by time Afl club gets hold of 18yo kid

With Murray out, Tex looking like he might be close to needing a rest, Fog out or playing sore, Butts struggling and TT training one handed yesterday, my confidence of a win has been somewhat shattered. Feeling we’ll have to win the midfield battle handsomely to get across the line. And we’ve not exactly been great in that dept recently.
Spot on. Missus is Carlton and she's already chirping about the game. Our trump card is Berry, who kicked the winner last year, when we looked like losing - bring him in and we'll no doubt cause a surprise. (I won't be tipping us though as every time I pick Carlton they magically lose!)

We were 3rd after round 7 in 2018 too.
After Round 7 last year, Brisbane were 2-5 and 13th, one spot below us.
We all know how that turned out. :sneaky:

After Round 3 this year, we were second (with 164%). Did that make us the second-best team in the Comp?
NO.
It meant only that we occupied second spot which was bound to change.

Ladder position has little meaning early in the year, at least until all teams have played each other once. Even then, there are going to be upsets and odd results. The draw affects that too.
The only Ladder position that really counts is at the end of the Minor Round, at which time a team's standing relative to the rest will be known
AND
even that only provides an opportunity to play Finals after which a team's yearly performance and standing are known.

"The Crows are 5th on the Ladder after 7 rounds" is demonstrably true. It's fact.
"The Crows are the 5th-best team in the Comp." is not.
I'd argue after Round 7 the 4 teams above us at this stage + Geelong + maybe as many as 4 or 5 others are "better" sides (what "better" means is arguable and open to debate, for sure)
AND
most-if-not-all the teams have a better Coach than Nicks :sadv1:.

Dawson not in his best form? hahahahaha

He's currently sitting 3rd favourite for the Brownlow..

Never change Crows board, never change

Probably because he's the highest turnover player in the competition

You might want to look at the company he's keeping there, mate.

Oh so now it's not about his form and is instead about the company he keeps?

Dawson is provably down on form compared to his All Australian year in metrics like turnovers and kicking. Wasn't even close to worst-in-the-league bad a few years ago.

Maybe put away the snide remarks if you are categorically wrong?

Seen his player rating for the last three weeks?
Hes rating the worst he has since he’s been at the crows on average
Have you not been watching?
2.5, 9.9 and 4.2 are horrible numbers.

Also 3rd favorite with who?
Not sportsbet, pointsbet or the tab.

It’s quite obvious his disposal has gone to shit recently.

He’s not in his best form, it can’t be argued otherwise.

That checks out for me. I said it last week about Jordan, he's developed a touch of the Brodie Smith's about him since becoming a full time midfielder. He prioritised the long kick option way too often IMO, and its burning him with high turnover numbers (as above), high clanger numbers (5 per game, career high), and low percentage shots on goal (2 goals 8 for the season, career low %).

He's a wonderful kick, but a coach needs to reign him in a bit IMO. Take the best option, over the long option.

He is also a bit like Hinge in that kicking is his only thought. He misses the handball option and slams it on the boot instead.

Seems to be kicking across his body a lot more now too, personally I think the pressure is getting to him both in his kicking and decision making. My feel is the as the Captain he's putting too much pressure on himself trying to lift the team.

Yeh I agree. One of the many reasons I would move him out of the midfield and give him some room to work.

Especially when we are equal 10th on wins and lost 3 from our last 4.

Even after the conclusion of the entire season, stating as absolute fact that the ladder represents the exact order of best to worst is ludicrous. It'd be a lot more correct than at round 7, but given the realities of the fixture, it's still not going to be exact.

And we banked our first 3 wins against opposition that are either terrible (Roos) or when we were at absolute full strength against sides that were missing 6-8 of their best 22 (Sainsts/Dons). It's just such a stupid position to take and I know he's not that dumb. I think he just got a bit excited because he thought he had a solid troll on the table. Turned out he just looks like a fool.
