A few have mentioned the wide open spaces of Subi...and another has mentioned how the Dockers use the corridor.

Just a note on this....though Subi is huge....it is actually quite narrow.

We do enjoy playing the boundary...but at the G you have to go very very wide to do this. That's why I actually think we play the Dome alright...and why I think we'll go alright on Subi.

To play the boundary at Subi, you don't have to go too wide. It actually forces us to stay more central.

Dockers would have a high corridor use for this reason. If you play the G every week, you get sucked onto the wings. I remember reading an article from nathan buckley about playing on different grounds...and his statement was that you get sucked out onto the wings at the MCG.

But we will have to re-jig out zone. Instead of spreading so wide and flat....we'll have to spread a bit narrower and longer (if that makes sense)

Palmer, Barlow, Mundy, Haselby et al are all suited to the wet....oh and some guy Sandi doesn't get any smaller on wet days. As wet days inevitably lead to a lot more bounces it plays right into Sandi's hands. Haselby is actually much much better in the wet as it means his one weakness, his speed, is not a factor.

I would think the wet would suit our long and direct style more than Collingwoods. You guys play a much quicker running game which is what has most of us worried on Subiaco. Add a bit of rain - it evens it up.

All good points. I don't think rain necessarily benefits either team. Nor do I think our pace would be a huge concern for you guys because you are probably quicker through the midfield....we are quicker off half back.

Fair call on Sandi and the wet....although it may limit his ability to take a contested mark up forward if the ball is slippery and the ball use is affected.

Great review Dave, awesome read.

However, I don't think we can simply assume Sandilands will dominate given we have Jolly in the side now.

Going to be cracking game. Go pies.

Yer Jolly is a huge plus.

But Sandilands stands 11 cm taller. Jolly is listed as 200cm.

Based purely on height...Scott Pendlebury would be more likely to match Jolly in the ruck than Jolly would be able to match Sandilands.

That's how huge the height difference is.

Yeah and Sandilands has a history of owning Jolly in the ruck too:

Round 5 09
Sandilands 46hitouts, Jolly 26
Freo win at Subi

Round 19 2008
Sandilands 36, Jolly 18
Sydney win at SCG

Round 14, 2007
Sandilands 39, Jolly 21
Sydney win at SCG

i guess that shows hitouts don't always win you games..

since we're gonna lose the ruck dual anyway, is it worth taking Wood out for a running player or an extra tall?

There's a massive difference between losing the ruck and not being competitive at all - as Hawthorn have found out.

Plus, Wood actually had a couple of very clean taps over the Sandiman in his very first game for the Pies - hoping to see a reprise!

Yeah, gots to at least nullify.

Never been on this board before, but that preview was awesome - much respect to OP. My old man is a maggie supporter and we have been given each other heaps all week. I think Freo will be too fast (if the rain holds off) and will be out to prove they are legit. Freo by 15 pts.

I will return in future weeks just to check out the game preview :thumbsu:
