He might take the week off himself, but the AFL and Port wont suspend him
Correct. There is zero chance, Port would ever handicap themselves deliberately for a game, especially more so for a Showdown.

Potentially Kenny's 2nd to last Showdown ever too there is a lot at stake here. I mean I assume he will coach out till the end of the season.

Last home showdown.

I have to admit that I was wrong last week.
Me, too.
I did not want to see Brodie Smith in the AFL again. An unbiased assessment is that he played very well. Defended well, strong at the ball, good disposal and most importantly he looked to move the ball on quickly.
Yes, he was very handy.
The ways the boys got around him after that goal say a lot about hos he's regarded within the Club.
My gut feel is that he was playing it as a final hurrah game and just went for it.
I didn't think of that but, yeah, maybe.
The real test will be his next AFL game which almost certainly will be this Saturday.
I see no reason for Nicks to drop him until Murray comes good.
Even then, if his form is solid he might replace Nankervis @ half-back.
Either way, if we get a player who does a good job @ HB, I'll be happy.
I was first on Board the Nank Train
Again, me too.
but he seemed to play the opposite to Smith. Trying too hard to make something happen and nothing seemed to work.
I don't know if he second-guesses what to do, gets in trouble then tries to duck, dodge his way out but often gets caught sometimes by a second tackler.
Awareness in any position means knowing where you are relative to teammates @ any given time before you get/receive the ball, so that if you get the ball you can make a quick decision and disposal.
I am confident he will be back.
Not if Smith shines @ HB.
Big Butts was more than handy and will lock in a spot until Murray returns.
Fitted in well, smoothly. Did not get a lot of the ball was very effective as a lockdown.
I can’t understand the lack of love for Keane from some posters. He has the occasional brain fade but he has played 39 AFL games ffs.
I was annoyed with Keane often, in the first 3 or 4 games, until I remembered his age and AFL inexperience. The goals he leaked drove me crazy (uh, crazier? :sneaky:).
Good news: he has not peaked yet and those brain fades will ... fade.
Berry looked surprisingly quick and clean and I was happy with my boy Zac.
Both looked like they can footy @ AFL level.

So you're talking about a bit of payback for the Houston - Rankine incident last year?

I like the way you think 👍 Who are we thinking should be the one to do the job and take the suspension for the team? Possibly ROB, although our only backup is McAndrew and I don't know if we want to rely on him for 4 weeks or so. Perhaps bring in somebody who is outside the best 23 so we won't miss them if they're unavailable for a few weeks.
Its already being taken care of.

Gatorade boy could possibly miss for the Power in light of his silly behaviour.
Just heard on the radio in the car on the way home the AFL have cleared him of the threatening text in view of the fact he's apologised to Bailey Dale and is remorseful....Ho Hum.

Imagine if the Giants players had only apologised for the end of season function issue...they would have avoided suspension from the AFL and been cleared......just like Rioli has

AFL’s decision not to fine, suspend Willie Rioli for Bailey Dale social media threat leaves clubs fed up

The AFL’s decision not to sanction Willie Rioli for threatening a fellow player flies in the face of precedent set by punishing players for middle-finger salutes, and Mad Mondays – and clubs are fed up, writes Jay Clark.

The AFL has a player punishment problem which stretches well beyond Port Adelaide’s Willie Rioli.
The Power goal kicker is officially the luckiest player in football after he escaped sanction for threatening Western Bulldogs’ defender Bailey Dale about leaving his hotel room in Darwin this weekend.

Rioli said he had lots of mates in the Top End and Dale better not go out.

That garbage has brought ridicule on Rioli who looks silly rather than any sort of tough guy.

But the headache isn’t only Port Adelaide’s.

Clubs around the league couldn’t have rolled their eyes more quickly at the light and fluffy statement from the league on Monday night saying there was nothing to see here because Rioli and Dale had broken bread over the matter. Somehow, Rioli got off scot-free.

Broadly agree, though I think he's also missed a lot of opportunities to do some important, positive things to offset the mistakes. If he kicks those two relatively easy goals against Freo for example the conversation about him looks pretty different.

I think getting subbed out for someone who plays a different position is usually a good sign you're gone anyway, and Nankervis will be out. Still has a significant future regardless.
Re Nankervis

Obviously a lot of people here rate him very highly, but I see him as depth only and a potential delist. I just don’t see a 100-game AFL player but for the Team’s sake I’d be very happy to be proven wrong.

In my eyes, Cumming is 2-3 levels of class above him. I wouldn’t mind seeing Dowling developed in the wingman role and given a chance.

Re Taylor

Thought he had A-grade skill levels from watching his early SANFL games. Glad to see him now getting a chance and showing positive signs. Hopefully he develops his fitness to be able to run hard all game and gains the confidence to demand the ball from team mates.

Who are we going to whack then without Houston playing?

Hinkley?

I'm not a big SANFL watcher. Would anyone be able to tell me how Charlie Edwards is tracking?

Could he be eased into the senior side in the Nank role? (not necessarily this week, but it seems like the most obvious switch to blood a debutant without making too many adjustments to team structure)

I can't see Port kicking more than 12 goals and if they do then we've had a serious midfield breakdown
Fun Facts with Grotto

Since 2020, Port have scored more than 12 goals, 4 times for two wins when they have.

Incidentally in the last 3 Showdowns, only once has more than 12 goals been scored by a team. Crows in R20 2023 which we won.
