I don't love having someone as sub 2 games in a row if they only get a quarter or so, got to keep getting miles in these guys legs. Also feel the sub should be a midfield runner who can come on and inject some energy through the middle of the ground and stoppage (assuming no injuries). Berry was good when he came on but he still hasn't proven he's fixed his fumbles and sloppy disposal under pressure. There will be pressure Sat night. A lot of it. I'd give him a full run in the SANFL and bring Draper back in for a taste of Showdowns as sub.

Hinge comes in for Nank - he needs a game or two in the 2s to get his bearings back, looks a bit lost right now. Think he'll get monstered playing like that in a Showdown. Talented kid, he'll be back.

I was at the game and the few times in the first half when he had the ball, there was no one in front of him. If he had kicked it, it would’ve been straight to a Carlton player. In saying that, he wasn’t confident to kick and kept going sideways.
... and then in circles, then back, under and around and ... HTB.

No doubt Butters and JHF will come out breathing fire.
Here's an idea:
Do we have anyone in the SANFL with some innate mongrel but not really good enough for AFL?
Maybe Murphy?
Pick him and tell him to snipe Butters (EDIT: or JHF, or both) while making sure the ball is within, say, 30 metres.
I'd love to see a side-on hip'n'shoulder that folds Butters around our bloke, but not so much as to break ribs or any kind of permanent damage), just enough to dull his influence.

Oh, ok, stretchered off.

If the Crow involved gets 3 or 4 games, hey, que sera, sera :rolleyesv1:.

You know, like the way they did Rankine :sneaky: .

Cant imagine Nicks will drop Smith and lose all that 'Showdown experience'
As enjoyable as the Carlton game was - it will put our premiership timeline back by some margin.
Bottom line is Nicks will look at the game and think that experienced players is what he needs. Smith is going nowhere now. Lock him in for most of the season. In fact he will probably play every game and then be delisted. It's what we do.
Hinge will come in for Nank. Nank will play 2 or 3 more games over the rest of the year.

I'd also expect Nicks to be pushing for a Murphy recall soon. Will be itching for Taylor to have a semi-quiet game and it will be Murphy straight in.

Anyone else think we have a rough fixture list for the rest of the season?

Difficult

Port x 2
Collingwood x 2
Hawks x 2
Sydney (away)
Brisbane
Bulldogs (Ballarat)
Gold Coast

Easier

West Coast x 2
Melbourne
North Melbourne (Marvel)
Richmond (MCG)
The only 2 you put a line through is Hawks in Launceston and Bulldogs in Ballarat.

I really liked the back 6 this week. To the point where Hinge coming back into the side might be better off playing on the Wing.

I like Hinge back there, but the chemistry on the weekend was easily the best its been this season. And he could be a very damaging player further up the ground.

Changed mind
In Hinge
Out Nankervis
In Draper
Out Tex (rest)
Actually don't mind this. Hinge could even play wing, and move Curtin forward. Fog to play Tex role, as he's looked good on the lead and can play further up ground. Draper to sub I think, and Berry to a full game. Not sure how Draper went in the SANFL, but stats weren't over the moon. Tex, whilst not terrible, looked like he was running in quick-sand over the past couple of weeks. Would love to see him in better shape for Collingwood.

Think we'll drop this. Port will come out firing after being demolished and they've shown they're capable of piling on 5 or 6 goals very quickly.
Its going to be interesting to see how they try and stop Thilthorpe, Fogarty, Tex and Curtin as the Bulldogs tall forwards completely destroyed the port tall defenders and the bogs smalls up there had a field day too off the back of it. If they want to start Rozee at half back, I said before and say again, I want to see Keays head straight to him and make his life an absolute misery with 2 way gut running and being a goal threat. Don;t also forget Dawson's marking power down back and up forward.

We know how to beat port and as long as we get the game going anything like on our terms, it might be the way it pans out. The x factor will be ports pressure - if they can keep it extremely high all game, we might be in trouble, but if they can;t ad our mids win enough ball, it will be by how much we end up winning imo.

5 wins from the easier part
1 and 1 from showdowns
1 and 1 against Collingwoof
1 and 1 against Hawthorn
Sydney Lost
Brisbane Win at home
Bulldogs Lost
Gold Coast at home win

Gives us 15 wins.

I have to admit that I was wrong last week. I did not want to see Brodie Smith in the AFL again. An unbiased assessment is that he played very well. Defended well, strong at the ball, good disposal and most importantly he looked to move the ball on quickly. My gut feel is that he was playing it as a final hurrah game and just went for it. The real test will be his next AFL game which almost certainly will be this Saturday.

I was first on Board the Nank Train but he seemed to play the opposite to Smith. Trying too hard to make something happen and nothing seemed to work. I am confident he will be back.

Big Butts was more than handy and will lock in a spot until Murray returns. I can’t understand the lack of love for Keane from some posters. He has the occasional brain fade but he has played 39 AFL games ffs.

Berry looked surprisingly quick and clean and I was happy with my boy Zac.

In - Hinge
Out - Nankervis

Berry the sub ( or should we give Sid a taste of the Showdown).

Don't see why Hinge couldn't be shifted to wing.

We actually need some injuries and unavailability periods so we can get more guys coming through. Edwards, Ryan, Pedlar, Draper, Bond, McAndrew, Dowling all needing AFL minutes
I think hinge is better off half back but it’s a definite option they can look at
