Don't see why Hinge couldn't be shifted to wing.

We actually need some injuries and unavailability periods so we can get more guys coming through. Edwards, Ryan, Pedlar, Draper, Bond, McAndrew, Dowling all needing AFL minutes

Hinge could definitely be shifted to the wing, but the question is why bother?

Having good ball movers is more important on the half back line than wing, and Hinge is a very solid half back flanker. If we're going to move Hinge, it has to be looking at him being an inside mid. Which is probably something we should look at.

That is also why long runs without injuries can end up being rather bad for clubs, especially ones who aren't at the pointy end. Injuries are a key part in how a best 22 refreshes itself.

You'd expect Rankine and some of our boys will come out breathing fire given what happened last time as well and how he was treated by the Port fans being stretchered off the field. Would not surprise me at all if he gets stuck into the crowd if he slots a couple. Will be interesting.
I think the best thing would be for Smithers to sink a nice goal to finish them off, and the Crows fans can join in the song as per Saturday - with the well known chorus 'No way, Get F*cked, F8ck Off'...

It’s a Port home game so no songs…

And hopefully Brodie is sitting in the players viewing area at the ground…

Want: Out: Smith, In: Hinge.

Reality: Out: Nank, In: Hinge.

Tex to get a rest after collingwood I think.
I don't think Tex will be rested. Might be the starting sub a few times. They'll want to do everything to get him to 300 games and he needs to play nearly every game from here to make it

I don't love having someone as sub 2 games in a row if they only get a quarter or so, got to keep getting miles in these guys legs. Also feel the sub should be a midfield runner who can come on and inject some energy through the middle of the ground and stoppage (assuming no injuries). Berry was good when he came on but he still hasn't proven he's fixed his fumbles and sloppy disposal under pressure. There will be pressure Sat night. A lot of it. I'd give him a full run in the SANFL and bring Draper back in for a taste of Showdowns as sub.

Hinge comes in for Nank - he needs a game or two in the 2s to get his bearings back, looks a bit lost right now. Think he'll get monstered playing like that in a Showdown. Talented kid, he'll be back.

Which out of Milera, Smith and Hinge are you playing on the wing?

I think if we rest Tex we will bring Pedlar in as he kicked 4 on Sunday and provided a half forward target.

Peds likes a tackle and it might give Rachele some more midfield time as well.

We're not resting Tex in the near future, maybe against the Eagles or Swans, but more likely he plays to the bye.

Showdown, not a bad warm up game for the collingwood game.
Too often we get these big games after the Showdown. We play our guts out in the Showdown with big atmosphere pumping and then draining everyone's adrenaline etc, and then next week we get taken to the cleaners. Lets hope Split Enz got it wrong (but we Kiwi's rarely admit we do, cause we rarely do ;) Deaneus would agree! :

Don't see any point starting Tex as sub. Play him or rest him. Don't believe he offers anything as sub. Rest for the Collingwood game, back in for round 11, bye week round 15 then maybe one more rest before (if) we make finals - rnd 22 in Perth perhaps

Hopefully we see more of Dawson forward this week. Our 3 bigs will stretch them as is, leaving Dawson a real togch matchup. Aliir and Esava prefer to roll off, but they'll be forced to play 1 on 1. They'll probably rush BZT back in after one SANFL game. Send ANB/Keays to Rozee and see if he wants to run both ways.

No, that's not us. We've typically followed our general season form in the post-Showdown games. Heck, Showdowns usually follow the general season form as well.

May have been a thing in the early-2000s when Port were one of the toughest match ups going around (+ showdown and the game was a bit more cavalier to dirty hits), but last 20 years, both sides have seemingly sorted their shit out in regards to it.

He had Hinge coming in for Nank, for Dowling to play, someone else has to miss.
I know.

My point is none of these 3 should be playing as a wingman.

I love Hinge further up the ground delivering into the forward line but rotations mean Cumming and Curtin play there as well. Wing and half back not dissimilar in the modern game. I hardly think Nank being out of the side disrupts things too much.

Nah, the depth chart will do Smith in this week (and Smith wasn't good enough to overcome that). He was in for Hinge, he'll be out for Hinge.
Could be too. I’m certain I heard Nicks say something like he will play the younger of a pair vying for the same position if they are on par with each other. Did I hear that right in his post match press? In any regard Hinge will play surely. On a totally different question, with Burgess bagging so many goals is he a good Walker replacement when Walker needs resting? 3 big lads in our forward line has been tough for opposition defenders. I’m definitely not suggesting resting Walker this week! No way! But maybe against Eagles in a couple of weeks.

It does make for interesting selection this week. I would think 95% of us have Nank missing and Hinge returning, wouldn't think there's much point trying to argue that won't happen. But it would leave a wing spot open, although Curtin can play there. But it still leaves 8 defenders for a 7 man rotation.

I know Nank has been out of form, but when you look at the raw stats and take into account the variance in TOG, he's getting his hands on the ball just as often as Cumming on the other wing. I know Cumming has hit up some sublime targets, but for all the certainty that Nank must go, is next man up really going to do much better in that role? Gut feel it's going to be a bit of a poisoned chalice throughout the year.

I vaguely recall Hinge moving up to a wing last year or the year before and going fairly poorly.

I'm sure he did, though I would take anything said in a press conference with a large grain of salt. In the end of the day, we select to win the next match of football with little consideration given outside of it (and most of that little consideration is just from kids who we rate as "superstar" talents, i.e. Draper/Curtin at this point).

Possible, especially against West Coast. Guess it'll come down to how much Thilthorpe/Fogarty get banged up in the next three weeks, seeing both have copped injuries.

Only one in our depth chart who we could be confident we'll get better production out of is Sholl, however that comes with the caveat of playing Sholl who is a deeply flawed player in his own right.

That wing role is definitely going to be a poisoned chalice this year for whoever gets it. There isn't a whole lot of production to be had there, especially with how strong our half forward line is and that we seemingly want to play through the corridor as much as possible.

If you had to choose between this week or next to rest him, it would be this week.
I wouldn't rest him this week, not with his record against Port, plus their garbage defence won't be able to handle all of Tex, Fog and Thilthorpe. If we rest him before the bye I'd rest him the West Coast game.

They are very dissimilar in my mind

Hence Nank struggling to learn wing role at afl level

Hinge is a better half back also

Smith out or sub at best
