Prediction R9: Changes vs Swans

I don't understand why people make statements like this. Hill had a pre-game fitness test last week and failed. If he isn't right, he won't play, what does it matter what your uneducated opinion is on whether he sits out another week or not?

Basically I'm saying, why say something completely baseless like that? You have absolutely zero justification as to why he should sit out.
Uneducated opinion? Fair enough. Hill had a fitness test and failed. The last thing I want is a best 22 player like Stephen Hill to be under done and re injures himself and is out for a few more weeks.

You realize we won. Im not sure what bad loss you are talking about. Actually we were missing at least 6 guaranteed best 22 players in Tabs, Wilson, Bennell, B.hill, S.Hill and Walters. With two others in Logue and Darcy who are likely to either be in contention or in our best 22 by the end of the year.

It is not an excuse to say if you select a team with four first year players, three second year players, two third year players, three fifth year players (McCarthy, Alex Pearce and I think Hamling but not certain) then history shows it is highly likely that there will be flat spots in a game for your team. It is not an excuse, but a reason for inconsistent performance across four quarters. It is also a fact that a young list will find it harder to cover when a few senior players are out of the team.

The view that we won't win a game until round 15 if we play like we did last night is just moronic when you consider how much potential talent could come back into the team.

Unfortunately we ALWAYS have 6 out !

We'll bring em in but it will be only replacing others who are out so going on historical precedent expecting a large net gain from returning stars is probably unlikely

We need a strong system that doesn't overly rely on personnel because a healthy list is a pipe dream for us it seems

My recollection is that they did. The next week against West Coast on one or both of McGovern and Hurn. Got his arse kicked and finished the game in defence. He then played forward the following week against Hawthorn before getting dropped. Don't recall if he was playing as a defensive forward in that game though.

I have to admit to drinking a lot for that west coast game and was too preoccupied with the free kick count to notice nhyuis’ role too much. I do remember a lot of McGovern intercepts which isn’t uncommon. I remember the hawthorn game better and he seemed to play as a general forward. I thought he was ok that game.

Would still like to see him reprise the role from time to time. Last few weeks has been McGovern, Ashbury / rance and Carlisle killing us. Mccarthy isn’t strong enough and cox not in the right spots. With tabs out need to do something else to at least bring the ball to ground.

Hill not playing, ruled out by Ross
So two changes : In Walters, Wilson
Out : Duman, Danyle

Honestly, if we got a decent offer i would trade Hill in a heart beat at this stage.

I'm not sure there is a softer player on our list.

Injured players get ruled out by the strength and conditioning team.

Yeah i get that, however most injured players can play through niggles.
Stephen Hill cannot. On top of that his boy is either extremely slow to heal or his doesn't work hard enough in rehab.

Fit he’s good. Missed a chunk of preseason, came back, got injured again. Recurrent injuries are curtailing him. You wonder whether debuting early Nd getting smashed around has predisposed to this. I’d use him for 12-14 games a year and cotton wool him. He’d also get paid accordingly. Comparing him to other top 10’s from his draft is a little disappointing. I’m starting to think our strength and conditioning staff are below par. Possibly bottom 4.

This has seemingly been an ongoing trend for quite some time now hasn't it.

For all the talk about Gaff being soft, I think both players were pick 4? Gaff has been better over the long run and
the soft tag has evaporated.
Hill earlier on was definitely an excitement machine, but Gaff's consistency, durablity has him well ahead.

Please show facts and not guesses. What do you think of Gold Coast playing Bennell knowing he would break down again instead of addressing the issue? How's the annual injury dramas at the Pies? Your citing S.Hill's inability to recover quick or well enough from injuries and that translates to a blanket statement of our strength and conditioning staff? All players are different and I'd suggest this latest setback is the club taking the time with him for the second half of the season.

I’d cite our long injury list spanning 2011-now as proof. Sydney, Richmond, West Coast often have 5 or less players out injured. I can recall Richmond having an entirely fit list late last year. We have never achieved that.

Didn't Ross recently nominate SHill as his favourite player? I'm pretty sure he wouldn't say that if he thought he was lazy or soft

Compare it to other clubs in that same time span, Richmond had their share of injuries prior to last year they happened to get some luck in that department which no doubt helped them lift the cup.

They also have quite a few this year (to peripheral players mainly).

We all have different opinions clearly.

I think hes soft and poorly coached.

I also absolutely love him as a player and have done so for a long time, however i am disappointed he hasn't lived up to his potential.

In: Walters and Wilson
Out: Nyhuis and Crowden

I would like to see Duman forward for a bit.

So you absolutely love a player you regard as soft? That makes no sense at all.

Only Hanneberry has played more games from his draft year (1 more at that). Sidebottom might pass him but everyone else has played a year less games. You don't play almost 200 games of AFL being soft.
