Aside from Maddie (getting her head strapped) the team in general seemed allergic to contact.

Scoreboard reflected that

Isn’t it interesting that both our senior sides are a rabble.
Maddie is courageous but she cannot run and spread.
She does not look athletic at all.
I think ant555 is correct the side is miles off in terms of running.
Many from the essendon men’s programs would say they lack professionalism on the track.

Agree about MP and said this a few weeks ago. It's a bit sad.
We need a big bodied mid who can burst away from stoppages and an athletic player who can run all day to support Nanscawen. MP might be okay for a short while with those players around her but the game is going past her.

We also need players who can kick.

We seem to have similar list issues with both men's and women's senior lists.

Not enough speed across the field, the aversion to contact and not enough quality through the list.


Did we often take "best available" through the previous drafts?
And isn't one of the head female list managers/recruiters(Harvery) a former Dodo prodigee?

Harvey isn’t the recruitment person anymore. We hired someone else a few months ago. I think Harvey is head of VFLW and some other bits instead

Be good to have at least 1 half decent team.

Aflw, AFL, VFL all been pretty average for a while now.

As a club need to keep focusing on development, culture and ensuring a mid to long term list strategy.

Will the new afl hp team have any influence/insights for aflw. Collectively need to rebuild and rise up.

Even the kangaroos at least have a dominant aflw team.

I don’t think we are a bad team. The fact we up against north by 30 points says so. We just beat ourselves. It’s a cultural issue.

It is an outside speed issue. We can win the footy inside but we have limited outside speed to move the footy so we have to play kick mark kick mark to move the footy. That ends up having two problems. Skill level has to be better than average and the opposition can shut it down with a lot more ease than closing down a running game.
The lack of pace also leaves us exposed going the other way. Pretty much every side have given us some sort of trouble as far as moving the ball quickly.
Do not think it is culture. We play a hard enough brand. Trouble is you can no longer just play inside football with no spread.
Injury has not helped this year either but in saying that injury has not stopped us from being top 4.
They simply need to inject players in every line who have pace and some footy IQ so we can move the football on the outside.

100%, injury has not helped one bit. We have the talent in the team but I just dont think they have hit the peak of there powers yet. I think we are also missing that our and out forward that is good enough to kick 20 plus goals a season.
