This. Closing up shop to protect a lead has cost us multiple games since Nicks took over. He is a blundering, stubborn idiot and a poor excuse for a coach.
We struggle to kill the game for 3 minutes let alone 10 minutes. Our go to strategy is kick long to a contest near the boundary - that's on the coach

That little push Laird gave to push the player back from the mark is done many times in every game. Dumb umpiring.
No it is umpiring the laws. He wasn’t in the contest. Ran in after so ‘incidental’ contact is not allowed. Only in the contest can he ‘push’ when the ball is his sole objective. It wasn’t he was miles away. The 50 is paid when the play is impeded or delayed. It is also paid if in normal play it would be considered a free kick. It is after all just a free kick. In this case a push in the back. Two hands pushing motion. Laird by pushing delayed Byrne jones the opportunity to play on and pushed him in the back. It is a frighin free kick and 100 times over correctly adjudicated. Yes it is ‘soft’ but it was 100% there. Laird was dumb. Seriously all of you if the roles were reversed you would be moaning your heads off if we hadn’t got a 50 for that. Umpires were not cheating.

Would also favour them staying in the same groups of 3, where possible, for as many games as possible.
What if you always got the shitest 3 or one gets injured. How do new ones get in and develop. If one of the 3 is out of form do they stay regardless. People sprout this idea a lot but in reality it would not work.

So rotate them every 4 games. Drop them if out of form. In reality it probably could work if you wanted to make it work?

Good:
This week has really worked out in Adelaide's favour. Come out of it with a game and percentage on 6th and 2 games and percentage on 10th.

Up to us to capitalise on it, but we're well on our way to entrenching ourselves in the eight.

Jeez imagine highlighting Crows players playing for free kicks when your Port Adelaide’s biggest fan.

It’d be like the head of the Ku Klux Klan pointing out racism.
He is a poor journalist. Hasn’t been able to hide his bias for the Power. No comment on the Willie Rioli fiasco? He’s a whiney headline seeker who has been foisted on us by some old boys club bosses on ch 7.

He did have one... he should have placed himself in our backline late in the game when we needed to save it, rather than being wasted up forward.
Yeah true.... But if your up 88 to 67 with half a quarter to go, helps to have an extra runner or 2 in the back 50.

Good that the crows won. But the showdown should of been a comfortable and less dramatic 3 or 4 goal win.

Then go for a counter attack then kick it in the forward 50 with the likes of Tilthorpe, Fogarty, Walker, Rankine and Rachele up Forward.

Rankine and Tilthorpe are both West Adelaide boys. Both had good games and made a difference.

I know it's the crows board.....

I don't barrack for the cats often but next round I am wanting the cats to beat Port.

Week or round after that, I hope my dockers do enough to beat Port. But that might be asking too much lol

I agree with most of your thoughts, and I would have gone with ANB myself, however a couple of things. If Taylor is not a good enough runner to be keeping up with Rozee in his fourth year at this level, then he is obviously never going to be a midfielder, so the coaching staffs decision to move him permanently forward is probably sound. The other thing is that he has had nowhere near the offensive contribution of Keays, ANB or Rachelle, so not sacrificing their output to negate a half back is understandable.

I think there is a perfectly sound debate to be had on the pros and cons of the matchup btw, I was more pointing out that those who just cannot view anything that Nicks does objectively will slam him for never trying anything outside the box, or for ever giving young players continuity or responsibility, and yet when he tries it they slam him for being stupid.

I thought his use of Dawson and Rachelle last week was very creative and effective, this week the moves didn’t work nearly as well. However he is certainly trying more things than last year and I for one am happy to see it.
You realise ANB had the job until half time right? And got "found wanting". Zak actually reeled him in a bit in the second half.

When was it because I cant remember.

Tilthorpe had a very good 1st half of footy in the showdown. Easily one of my favourite players in this crows side.
First qtr I reckon, of half back.
He also had a goal kicked on him by finlayson when he was in the ruck.

What?
Zac kept him to 11 disposals 4 of which were turnovers in the second half (he had 20 in the first half on ANB)

To be honest, I made my post at half time. The post still remained correct, although at least we were not screwed by the umps in the dying minutes of a close game again.
As much as I despise this ump for past performances involving the Crows, I have to say his second half, the last quarter in particular, surprised me. Paid a couple to us at crucial times that you often see ignored. Credit where it's due.

Tilthorpe didn't have any brain farts in the showdown.

I only remember Tilthorpe taking lots of marks, both contested and uncontested.
You must have missed his handball to a power player in the corridor that immediately led to a goal

He'd marked the ball, it was late in the quarter and he had plenty of time to go back and make a decision

Some great comments on the port board

Imagine having a 5-5 record against a Nick's coached crows team
Particularly when we've had the worst 5-6 years in our existence. That's just embarrassing for Port.

Not having a go at Nix. That Port could only break even over that time when they all thought they were headed for 3 premierships LOLOLOLOLOLOL... that's pathetic, and it's delicious.

Eat a huge bag of aubergines Port!

I feel the same really.

Was at the game a few beers in, girt by port fans, several of them mouthy. Just relieved to get the win in the end.

Thought about being a bigger man this morning but also have texted anyone I know who’s prone to gobbing off.
I never forego the opportunity to twist the knife after a showdown win having endured Port supporters over the years - the worst losers, and even worse winners, of all football supporters.

Butters says hello
Actually reckon he stays and I hope so.

I want Port to keep that imbalance in their salary distribution. A handful of top notch elite players surrounded by a bunch of try-hard ordinary spuds. 🥔 🥔 ... well, that's what it always appears to be to me.
