It was actually a good week for the West Coast squiggle, actually. Despite the fact we went backwards, the two closest sides both had dramatic slides, whereas we only had a little retrograde move. Makes for an exciting season with that many teams in the leading pack.

Going dowwwwn in a blaze of failure you could ride the freo squiggle like a slide
Sort of hard to see where Fremantle are even going to notch up a win the way they're going. The North game just ended up being their make or break game, and it looks like it totally broke them.

broke us like a promising key defenders tibia. We actually pushed north really hard that's the best we have played all season but realistically it's over and has been for a while. the players have put the cue in the rack. Also the decision to go back to the defensive game plan is an awful one long term I don't think it's helpful to develop young players and I think the game has moved past it. It's stopped any blowouts but u can see we are still the right side of the squiggle

My partner was at the game with a friend of hers that's a passionate Freo/WA football supporter. Devastated when Fremantle disappeared in the last quarter, considering that they were so close.

Round 9, 2016

The top 8 teams bunched up a little more, just to keep things interesting. There really isn't a whole lot of insight you can get from the squiggle at the moment, other than that it's even.

Eight teams could plausibly shift into firm flag favouritism from here, but none has really seized it yet.

Squiggle still likes West Coast, who had a good week despite the underwhelming win, since it was so bad for Geelong and Hawthorn.

Also good for North, who finally delivered a thumping win. And Sydney, who squiggled toward a very Sydney-like position, while knocking Hawthorn down to a very un-Hawthorn-like one. 55 points! It used to be shocking when the Hawks were kept under 100.

Richmond complete the hairpin turn, just like they did at the same time in 2015. If they could have a season where they don't piss away the first 7 weeks, that would be good.

And probably a slightly depressing week for Essendon, Carlton, Gold Coast, Brisbane, and Fremantle, who did badly while potential train wrecks in Collingwood, Melbourne, St. Kilda, and Richmond got better.

Looks like the Giants are preparing to talk the Hawk and walk their walk. Ominous handover.
Haha was just thinking that! It's like they're swapping shifts, just a casual "g'day" on the way through before the Giants guard the cups for the next few (or 100) years.

Getting done by Geelong, thrashed by GWS and done by the Swans should be well enough to knock them off their perch.
I can only assume the sim takes it as a blip? Or going by the data their low scoring performances aren't consistent enough to start a sharp trend downwards. If they suddenly began to get belted weak in and out then it'd show, but right now the sim sees it as blip under performance as they correct themselves the week after (generally speaking).

I think the Hawks flag pole has retained height as it's still using data from 2015 which includes that 3 week period where we belted 1st place Freo (115 - 43), Sydney away (46 - 157) and Carlton (173 - 35). And also our finals matches against Adelaide (135 - 61) and West Coast (107 - 61).

Plus I think Final Siren has said the flagpole rates a team scoring and winning big more than anything else. Losing and scoring small might be the opposite but it must not be as big a factor.

If you want to know what it takes for the Hawks to be knocked off that perch then it's up to the next few teams to continue scoring and winning big.
