As per last year, here is my Virtual Melbourne Cup Field if it was set today.

NB. Still to play out including the ballot free spot for the winner of the Hotham Hcp, assuming it’s a paid up horse for the Cup.

bendigo cup (Wednesda) could tell a tale for a spot but less likely as it were.

the field I have is set in saddlecloth order.

the next lot are in ballot order so depending on weight etc they could take a spot but have a “higher” saddlecloth.

for those interested Neufbosc is currently 24th in ballot order so the most nervous of the field so to speak.

Updating the Virtual field as it stands today taking into account the latest withdrawals and all completed races.

NB: The Chosen One stands as the 24th in ballot order and essentially only ONE spot remains available being the winner of the Hotham Hcp. Assuming the winner is a Cup acceptor then that winner will go in.
Though technically Sound (23rd in order) could also drop out if Downdraft came 2nd to top 5 and Sound didn’t finish Top 8 (win ofcourse is auto in). But that’s technical.

NB: The winner of the Hotham is liable to a weight penalty but usually it’s not forthcoming or light.

Derby Day.

one of the greatest days on the calendar.

glorious racing through.

Shadow Hero to be so strong in the Derby.
warning to be the warning and run well.

Bivouac to gain the group 1 in the hot Coolmore.

Gai to gain a runner in the Melbourne Cup with the Hotham runner Hush Writer. (Rain won’t help him but he’ll go to the front)

Edit: rain is a coming, so The Chosen One will be the pick over Hush Writer.

nice race because the winner (except Carif who isn’t in the Cup) gets a Cup spot so they are all going for it. Competitive.

The Cantala so open so good luck with that. I’d be interested to see how well Admirals Joker runs if it gets a start as second emergency.

in the wonderfully named Empire Rose, look for the NZ star a Melody Belle to run really well.

Here is the most likely Melbourne Cup field for 2019.
In saddle cloth order; assuming they all pay up and no penalty given to winner if Hotham.

No penalty for Hotham winner.
As such the above should be the final field on correct order (assuming they all elect to pay up which is the usual ad this juncture.)

Good luck all; very Japanese for me.

Vow and Declare for me.Just seems weighted well.
Mer De Glace that last run just showed so much class.
Finche and Rastopivich.
My roughie each way is Prince of Arran.

But I shall await weather forecasts and my bets are $1.00 each way.
So please gamble responsibly and good luck.

A small each way bet is a fun way to go.

i like a small box trifecta for fun too.

I actually backed the winner at more at $1.00 Each way
And also Prince Of Arran and IIpardiso
Snagged the trifecta
And the 1st 4
But not the total pools as in percentage.Very small but stoked.
Been trying to win the Trifecta since 1979.
The protest saved me and I hope they throw the book at Dettori!
