Seeing Dangerfield playing for the Cats was like seeing an ex-girlfriend that you're still in love posting on social media about her new boyfriend. I didn't feel angry, just sad. :(

He played his heart out for the Crows and was fully engaged even at the reserves level, getting out to games where he could.

He didn't wimp out like Gunston did when he left. He told the players to their faces. He didn't play the "going home" card like Tippett did, only to do an about-face and request to be traded to the Hawks on a mega-money deal. So personally I find it really hard to hate Danger over leaving the club.

Whether the major factor was his fiance wanting to go back to Geelong, or if it was him wanting to be closer to family, or both, or some other reason, we'll never know, but we do know that he gave his all for the club while he was here.

After meeting and discussing Patty's decision with him, Ricciuto said on radio that there was more to it than had been stated in the media, and that it was for Patty to talk about eventually. He sounded pretty filthy about this bit in particular. It could be anything, but my gut reaction was he thought he was a better chance to win a premiership with Geelong than with Adelaide.
Could be the whole melbourne media exposure thing too.

My inner cynic has lead me to feel that Patty was happy to allow factors such as family, the girlfriend, Victoria vs. SA to be implied as the reasons for leaving, but that they were all secondary to the belief that we'd never be a true contender.

Perhaps if the Tippett saga hadn't unfolded like it did and we landed a decent draft pick (Cripps) things could have been different. As it stands, after a pre-season and the opening round it's looking like a fairly shrewd decision.

These days I believe it's illegal to pre-tick the opt-in box but always good to check exactly what's been ticked, what you're ticking etc.

Is that true? Didn't Essendon last year or the year before have a pre-ticked opt-in box in their membership renewal forms for a volunteer payment to help with legal costs. Then again it is Essendon after all...

NikkiNoo, jenny61_99 you're both well versed on this topic, do you remember anything about this?

Except if you take Dangerfield out of the Cats team and put him in the Crows team you could have had 2 very different results in both games.

They certainly had a system where you had to opt out if you didn't want to pay it. Not sure if that's the same thing?

Well they got some coin from their die hards there. Huge toll.

Probably year before. Stricter regulations about pre-ticked boxes came into effect in 2014.

Just be glad Port didn't sign you up as an E member without asking for permission.
Port sent me an email as I bought an away showdown ticket.

Replied telling them in no uncertain terms I was a crows member.

Same reason we plug our non-11 game memberships - the race to the bottom for membership numbers.
I hope we win that one as well

Finally, in Dangerfield we have a player with the decency to really rub in how bad it feels to lose a good player and make Adelaide's mismanagement of the playing list as unpleasent as it should be for the fans.

Now, if only Van Berlo had the decency to sue the club for slicing his Achilles tendon they wouldn't have felt the moral duty to continue selecting a "good club man"
