... according to an ESPN Cricinfo tweet earlier this afternoon. Press conference called in Bangalore tomorrow (Friday).

Been a tremendous career, even if he's been overshadowed by his compatriot, Sachin. India will be hoping (a) Sachin and Laxman don't pull the pin at the same time (relatively) and (b) the replacements in the wings are good enough to step up to the mark.

Amazing career. His partnership with Laxman against the Aussies sums him up beautifully - Dravid made a superb 180 but was overshadowed by the Laxman knock.

Smart man and smart choice to call it a day.

He failed here but wasn't that long ago he was india's only bright spot when they were getting smashed in england but reality is he's 39 and it's time to move on.

When your a top order batsman getting your stumps knocked back most innings its pretty much time to go.

I remember when Vaughan from Eng was getting bowled, he held on for a while but it means your pretty much finished

Definitely time to start sweeping the broom in the Indian middle order. It's a shame he was a shadow of his former self in the end. I remember years ago modeling a large part of my defensive game on his technique. He was pure class with a fantastic temperament. Wasnt just a 'wall' either- in his earlier days he made some pretty swift tons in ODI cricket (see 1999 world cup stats)

His 2 mates should pull the pin. Dravid was pretty average in australia. Im glad he didn't turn it on because he would have killed us. Well done mate been a champ.

Top notch player, underrated behind his contemporaries... and a gentleman of the game.

I can imagine Laxman retiring soon, but not Sachin.

My dad was in India a while back and he showed me a page from an Indian newspaper that had a 16 year old Dravid just having completed some ridiculous record breaking schoolboy innings where he got 300 odd and was bein touted as the next big thing. Fast forward two decades later and he did have quite the career.

Well done champ.

absolute legend with the bat.

I hope he's remembered as the 'wall of india' the rock on which so many great indian victory's was built on and not the travesty that was punished in Australia.

No surprise to hear that he's retired, the writing was on the wall (pardon the pun) after his poor test series here.

Has been a great batsman for India over a long period and by all accounts is a great bloke off the field.

could of gone on and made some easy runs back home again but credit to him for calling it quits now. a fine career and from all reports a true gentleman on and off the field.
