Chances are there will only a be a smidgen of rain and the GF should be played in pretty good conditions, albeit a little chilly.
this is the most likely scenario according to the weather dude on MMM this morning.

A couple of passing showers with the small chance that there could be some hail. He seemed to think that was unlikely though.

So Selwood to have an absolute ripper?

Me hopefully. I think row LL is under cover. :p

Comes down to the smalls if it's raining. Geelong have theirs, we have ours, I don't think it will give anyone a distinct advantage.

It might mean though that Geelong will think twice about their long bomb strategy to beat the press, as their talls will struggle with the slippery ball.

Okay... you have obviously never played football in your life ANT85. Long kicking in wet weather is the best thing you can possible do to gain metreage.

Not sure about that Ant. Long bombs in wet weather are always safer than overusing. That said, it may force both teams to use identical tactics which you'd think would make it very interesting. :thumbsu:

I 100 % agree with you The Lip. Long bombs can gain so much metreage in wet weather and is always the smart option. Over using the ball and going down the boundary will cause definate problems for us as it will be hard to hit those targets plus turning the ball over with out on the fulls.

It can go either way.

Geelong use the long bomb in the hope they can push numbers up and press us back.

But if we have a loose back and rebound quickly (i.e. Hawthorn last quarter), it'll just be a spring board.

There's less of a chance they'll be winning those marking contests in wet weather.

It does, however, negate one of our biggest strengths - Cloke.

However, the bomb it long mentality of the cats might still not work if our pressure is at its best, which unfortunately it hasn't been since the freo game in rd 23.
I disagree about negating Cloke. His marking will be affected for sure but Cloke has also been monstering opponents with his attack on the ball and tackling of opponents. If anything I'd suggest it will enhance this aspect with little or no detrimental effect.

All I'm saying is that it's common practice to go long in the wet. The reason is straight forward. In the wet ball handling is harder so more mistakes are made and therefore there are more turnovers. If you over use it you're going to be having turnovers all over the place and that will ultimately end in tears.

Cloke's no slouch in the wet, had nine scoring shots against Port in the poring rain by memory.

Are you a troll or just a very negative Pies supporter?

He's just changed his teams from Geelong to us, time to piss him off from this board I say.

who will this suit?

Us... for sure...we know we can win a tight contest...look at our wet weather form the last two years...this is the MCG not Skilled Stadium...there will be no fast breaks through the corridor for the Cats...the best sides win in the wet...we are the best and hardest tackling side in the competition...we should be the fitter side.

Bring it on

Go Pies.
