Far from the Harlem Globetrotters
If you thought Geelong would be untouchable with the trio of Patrick Dangerfield, Joel Selwood and Gary Ablett, think again. The Cats have been pinged holding the ball 95 times for the season, the most of any side in the competition. In overall free kicks against, the Cats rank No.8.

Thrown into the deep end
The Cats have used 39 players this season – the equal-most of any side with Gold Coast. It equals the Cats' 1998 season and is their equal highest since 42 were used in 1990. With six debutants used already this season, untried ruckman Ryan Abbott and midfielder Charlie Constable will be hoping to take the Cats' tally to 41 by season's end.

Keeping it close
Comprehensively beaten by Essendon in round 9 to the tune of 34 points, the Cats' other six losses have all come by three goals or less. It sees their average losing margin of 14 points ranked as the lowest in the competition. – Mitch Cleary

Poor Gryan Miers and Ryan Gardner...

That's a very Richmond 2017 run :p

Wouldn't be the sole cause of our clubhouse-leading status on this measure

But we do appear to get a fair whack of the most perplexing 'HTB against' decisions across the comp, in my view.

That game against the Craas 'featured' a couple of absolute head-scratchers for a start.

SOS and Scoot, if my memory serves...

I'd love to know the HTB differential stat because it certainly seems we get the least in our favour too.

Granted our tackling is ordinary but the difference in the way the rule is interpreted when we have it v. when the opposition have it is staggering.
Was it the GWS match where Danger laid a perfect tackle, opponent dropped the ball without correct disposal & the umpire reasoned it as "he attempted to kick the ball" - but no contact with the ball was made & he had taken on the Geelong players

Hopefully you haven’t just jinxed them :(

With the win on Saturday night, Geelong currently have the longest streak for consecutive seasons with 10 or more wins. Have to go way back to 2003 for the last time we had less than 10 wins in a season.

From On The Couch tonight...

Premiership teams in the last decade rate highly in these categories:

Geelong’s rankings:

Collingwood and GWS tick 4 of 5 boxes each. West Coast and Richmond nowhere near it.

The AFL's Official Player Ratings today have done up a list of the players whose ratings have gone up the most from last season to this season (so far), and one for the players who have gone down the most. A Geelong player in each list (Rohan in the 'up' list, and Henry in the 'down')

Henry’s is largely a role change, going from an interceptor to a shut-down player.

I did the maths on that for Geelong between 2005-2017~ and we had a positive record against everyone except Sydney who we tied with (or thereabouts).

When people ask why Geelong is so hated, not many realise part of the reason is that for their entire lives in some cases, their team is more likely to lose to Geelong than win.

And that s**t really wears you down.
