Has anyone looked up the origin of the word ‘thug’?

Did anyone already know this? I love the way language works.
I'm am fairly sure it is a contraction of the word "thugee" the Thugees were a cult from 18th/19th century India.

Don't understand mainstream media, on one hand all female athletes should be respected and objectived as athletes, on the other hand there's a story about a V8 making 25k a week as a pornstar and how she should be lauded...

So men are terrible for seeing them as sexual objects unless they choose to be and then it's empowering and men should respect their strength....
Doesn't make sense to me

Firstly, cars now have a gender? Secondly, is there a fetish genera where people want to see other people mate with V8 cars?

Lastly, do cars have the right to choose to be gender non specific? Do we need to add a C to LGBTIQ? Chrome spellcheck doesn't recognise LGBTIQ as a word so the entire internet is now a bigot.

Oh, and I fully agree with comments btw.

So its illegal to have more than 5 guests in your house, illegal for thousands of people to work to feed their families, its illegal to go into the work office and if you visit a cafe (which can only have 20 people in there at a time) you need to record your personal details

But a protest with 10,000 people is fine and allowed to go ahead?

The ******* stupid logic dumbfounds me with this Daniel Andrews

* the reason for the protest is irrelevant to my point

Yep. Businesses have collapsed, lives upended but it was all for the greater good.

But this s**t goes ahead.

If there is a second wave especially in Melbourne due to the protests and they shut everything down again I am going to absolutely lose my s**t.

Quite seriously if there are people on my Twitter feed or Instagram who posted pics from the protest who start sooking in a fortnight because they have to lock down again I am going to remind them SO HARD.

Too many out there were advocating for crushing the economy and were also at the protests yesterday.

Not to mention the indigenous community who were quite rightly fearful of it taking hold in their population.

Community transmission exists but is very, very low at present so I don't think a crowd of 10,000 outside poses a huge risk at this point of the pandemic. Mathematically there's a very high chance none of those people have the virus. Deep down I think the government would know this but there's still that small chance of an infectious person rocking up and spreading it too.

This is from the live feed of The Australian today:

Rush to trace contacts of man who took virus to Qld
Health officials are tracking down everyone who came in contact with a Melbourne man diagnosed with COVID-19 after flying to Bundaberg in Queensland. The 24-year-old flew to Brisbane on Monday, where he socialised with friends and family, before flying to Bundaberg, checking into shared accommodation and working a shift at a strawberry farm.

Dr Jeannette Young, the state’s chief health officer, said he was infectious the whole time.

The man’s family and friends are being tested while under quarantine, a testing clinic has been set up on the farm where he worked, and four other people in the same accommodation have so far tested negative.

Contact tracing is under way for anyone who travelled from Melbourne to Brisbane on Virgin VA313 on Monday and from Brisbane to Bundaberg on Virgin VA2905 on Tuesday.

Dr Young is urging Queenslanders to be on high alert and get tested if they have symptoms rather than waiting for a phone call from an investigator.

—————————

That’s one person doing the wrong thing in a situation where we can trace the contacts.

All it will take is one person having it at these protests and you will see a return of the lockdowns, because in a crowd of 30,000 who knows how far it spread, and that’s before it secondaries.

So why is everyone else restricted to gatherings of less than 20 people?

Not having a go at you, just a genuine question

I'm not suggesting that a crowd of 10,000 is safe and we should be demanding the return of crowds. It's still an unnecessary risk and these people, whatever their cause is, are selfish for ignoring the CHO and Premier of Victoria.

I just don't think a one-off protest is going to wreck the rest of us the way some are fearing. There are probably only a handful of people in the whole of Victoria that are infectious at present and let's remember 99.8% of Victoria's population were not there yesterday.
The probability of someone being infectious and at the protest yesterday is very low.

However,

It's still a possibility and if someone WAS there yesterday and spreading the virus, then there's going to a pretty sizable spot fire to put out. I'd be staggered if that led to another lockdown though. Let's wait and see. At least we'll all know who to blame.

I remember Chadstone etc being packed a few weeks ago and people thought that was going to be the second wave starter. I'm predicting this protest won't cause too much trouble either.

As much as I disagree with those protests going ahead over the weekend, considering we're not out of the woods with COVID-19 and we are now in the winter months where the virus thrives. I don't think the State Governors had much of a choice but to let these protests go ahead and try to enforce as much social distancing as possible. Having the police violently enforce lock-down rules would only lead to the kind of s**t that is coming out of America.

On the bright side if there is no spike over the next two weeks then we should hopefully see restrictions ease.

to be fair the state government could have at least looked like they were trying to stop them or at least condoned them. The premier using the his soft language 'urging people not to attend' doesn't cut it after the strong language he has been using over the last 10 weeks in banning a majority of people from their basic freedoms such as stopping people from working, feeding their families or seeing their mothers on mothers day.

If I was one of the workers/employers who was told I wasn't allowed to work the last 10 weeks I would be ******* furious at the moment.

Not only that but people were fined thousands of dollars for playing cricket but they can go march all they please. What a joke

I think the organisers of the Melbourne protest got fined. Not sure how much.
