Where do you lot think the Grand Final will be held?

Day, Twilight, or Night GF?

Here is my take- Optus Stadium is an obvious choice in any other year if this situation happened that the Grand Final can't be at the MCG HOWEVER with everything Queensland has done for the AFL in 2020, it would be a real slap in the face to Queensland footy. Tony Cochrane knows what he is doing- he has great contacts in the entertainment world so if Queensland get the GF, it will be something special. Perth however, is a big dangling carrot. I have never been to Optus but heard some awesome things about the stadium (Freight Train should be able to confirm its the best stadium in Aus?). The thought of having a 60,000 packed crowd at the awesome Optus Stadium might be something the AFL can't say no too. Adelaide unfortunately I think are out of the equation. This is going to be a very very close call.

On the time of the GF, It is almost certain to be a twilight/night GF this year and as a traditionalist, I think it will unfortunately stay. Maybe if they return to an arvo start next year maybe slightly later? 3:30 or 4pm? The Cox Plate doesn't seem like they want to budge and that might be what causes the GF to enter the never seen before timeslot.

Anyway, I'm keen to here your thoughts!

Optus is the best stadium I’ve ever been to. Haven’t been to every stadium in Australia but I have been to the MCG which is the benchmark and whilst it’s a special feeling at the G, Optus is a superior stadium IMO.

Night Grand Final will be awesome too if it happens, happens in almost all sports globally and something about playing under lights gives it that big fight feel.

Just imagine, a day game in Perth which appeases traditionalists, which is broadcast into Melbourne at a twilight slot. Perfect

I can see the AFL aiming to have it in Queensland. With the Cowboys, Titans and most notably Broncos having disappointing seasons, with such a move Australian Rules Football can leave a lasting impression on Queensland. If not for Queensland, this season may not have gone ahead. It should be in Western Australia as they are 'Football States', however, they always will be. The thing is, it certainly isn't certain if Queensland will remain a state which is willing to watch this sport in the next 10-15 years. If the AFL really wants to promote the sport in Queensland they will have it hosted there. If the AFL aims to grow Australian Rules Football in the non footy markets they'll have the Grand Final in Queensland.

I would like to see either Adelaide or Perth host the Grand Final, as they are traditional AFL states. However, i can see Brisbane's bid as valid, because we would not have a season if it weren't for them.

As for time, it will be allocated for an appropriate time for VicBias viewers, so having a Night Grand Final at Perth Stadium is out of the question.

I have never understood this, why the **** is the AFL being pushed around by some horse race. They are the biggest sporting organisation in the country, tell the horse racing guys that if they want anyone to watch their race, they'll need to find a different day.

I'm not even slightly a horse racing fan so excuse my naivety, but is the Cox Plate even that big? I thought the Melbourne Cup was the big one? Even still I really doubt the AFL would lose many viewers to it.

I think because the AFL are jumping into their day they have to accommodate

Imagine if the Cox Plate was pushed back and they landed on the Grand Final day, it would be expected they organise around the AFLs timeframe

Channel Seven is playing a major part in this. They have rights to both. I do agree though, most people don't really care about horse racing and just want to watch the Grand Final as it is the biggest sporting event in the country.

I did read something this morning that they'll look to bring the Cox Plate forward to 3pm from 5pm to allow a build up to the game. What I think they could have done though is have the Grand Final in the usual spot (or slightly later) then pencil in the Cox Plate to be ran at quarter time or something like this?

Yeah, I agree that if the Cox plate was pushed back, they would have to organise around the AFL, because it is the biggest game in town. Not sure why the AFL can't understand that though and just pick whatever time they want and make everyone else deal with it, that's the leverage that you should have as the biggest sporting event of the year.

If it was the Melbourne Cup I could understand as 7 probably get a lot of viewership out of that and would like to maximise their investment there, but any other race and the AFL should tell them to get stuffed.

I assume it's a respect thing

Plus an excuse for the AFL to run a twilight game without any fan push back

Ch7 do have a dedicated horse racing channel, maybe broadcast the Cox Plate on there.

Our Premier (Steven Marshall) is making what seems to be a half-arsed bid for the grand final: unless he goes all-in I can't see us getting it at the Adelaide Oval. Of course the Adelaide Oval is my preference, but the Perth stadium makes sense for capacity / COVID-19 safety & the Gabba would be OK too (depending on COVID-19 situation at the time).

Where should it be? Perth. Biggest possible crowd available in a near-Covid-free state, in a traditional football state and the best source of revenue for the AFL

Where will it be? Brisbane.

In order of preference - Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney. Sydney may have the biggest stadium available but Gladys would be playing with fire making promises to the AFL. As an AFL fan living in NSW, I would love to attend but the risk isn't worth it for me or my community.

GF will be twilight EST because if the location is different it'll be a license to try something new. A Perth GF is also a happy medium between traditional day game and testing the new timeslot

Grand Final should absolutely be played in Perth. Having said that though, the Premier playing 'hard to get' its hurting the chances when states like QLD are throwing everything on the line to get it played in Queensland.

Gil is heading to the QLD hub Tuesday. The AFL commission is meeting Tuesday to decide with an announcement either late Tuesday or more likely Wednesday. If Gil is up in QLD for the announcement, one would think the announcement is Queensland is hosting the GF

I’d be lying if I said I want it at any ground in particular. Obviously West Coast at home is scary, I also have PTSD from playing Brisbane at the Gabba and every team seems to have us worked out at AO. It’s lose-lose for us, and that’s on the proviso that we even make the GF.

QLD this year, WA next

Personally I think you're kidding yourself if you think this virus is gone anytime soon - I fully expect next season to be hubbing again

What about Portricon Stadium? 9 out of 10 wins there and the 1 loss was on a Friday so Port have a perfect record there on weekends. ;)
