I've got a question for the random chat thread. I'm looking at starting a new collecting project and what I'd like to do is get a replica guernsey of each team in the three big state leagues (though I wouldn't knock back a PI if I stumbled across one). What I'd like to know is why are the replica WAFL guernseys for sale from the club websites so crap? Just the WAFL logo and the club logo, with no sponsors. They look like those cheap AFL knockoffs you can buy from K-Mart. Is there anywhere you can get a decent WAFL replica with all the sponsors?

How many of you lads are in to Dream Team? With it opening next week, I thought I'd start a league for this board. Anybody interested?

Sick ****ing start to Australia day. 4:30 AM wake up, catch a bus to Canning Bridge, row back to CCGS which should only be a 45 minute row. But the wind picked up immensely so the boat started to fill up with water, no biggie it happens. We start yelling to our coach that we will sink, so he doesn't listen and drives away. The wake that his motor made left us with a boat full of water, sinking to the bottom of the Swan River. We scream out for him and he finally comes back and helps. We then tip the boat over and get rid of 'most' of the water, only to sink again 10 minutes later. I blame it on the fact one of our rowers weighs twice the amount of the boat.

Yeah, I'll give Dream Team a go this year. I did it for the first time last year, and went rather averagely. Should be better off this year, though. I'm in.

Anyone listening to the Hottest 100 ? and what everyone doing for Australia Day ?

Hottest 100 has been pretty good so far. Love how Ball Park Music got a few songs in there. Even though it was overplayed on mainstream radio, it'll be a travisty if Gotye doesn't get #1.

Dunno about shit like Skrillex making the countdown. Cannot begin to list the things I would rather listen to than Dubstep. The only thing possibly worse is metal. Has been plenty of good stuff in the countdown so far though. Only song I can see outplacing Gotye is that crappy "We Found Love" one by Rihanna and Calvin Harris. Oh and why so low Radiohead?

I'm in for Dreamteam, yeah....Have always lacked the proper motivation to give it a go, so why not.

Triple J is mainstream radio. Any part of the population can pick it up. Thus not underground. As for the music, that's not really alternative either. A majority of music played is pop music.

Gotye is lame. I just don't like the music at all. His latest song is the definition of unimaginative and bland songwriting. It encapsulates how unhip Triple J's listeners are. Of course, not being up to date with 'trendy' music is far from a crime. But Triple J banner themselves as tastemakers for the "indie" and hipster market...

Oh and why so low Radiohead?
Although The King of Limbs left a little to be desired, "Lotus Flower" is a beautiful, rigid, and melodic piece of music. It's one of my favourite songs by the band, and I've tracked it since it was debuted live years ago. Though, TKOL is better than 90% of the records the songs from the hottest 100 came from.

The reason it polled low is because Triple J listeners are kind of lame. The station points itself toward this 'indie demographic'. But the kids who listen to it aren't listening to music as underground as they think it is. The station plays music that is shared with commercial radio. Yet they think they're hip? It's laughable.

Read a website like Pitchfork and their top hundred songs of the year. You'll get about 15 that featured in the Triple J Hottest 100. I think the Pitchfork demographic is much less prone to share interests with pathetic stations like Nova. The absolute mindnumbing blandess of Gotye didn't even poll with Pitchfork, or any decent music magazine.

I hate Triple J.

And the list has not been good. "Midnight City" was the best song of 2011, and it'll probably get (only) in the top 15. Yet scratch the surface of the listeners, and they'll not know another song by M83. The album "Midnight City" is from, isn't even the best M83 record...

Yep, dubstep is shit, along with most music.
#1 is quite obviously going to be Gotye, as the Doctor said the winning artist will be in the studio tomorrow, there aren't that many (barring artsits playing the BDO, eg. Foster the People) that could just come into the Sydney studio tomorrow... and I don't even really like that song :p

Oh and any of my fellow fashion obsessed Melburnians should check out the new Topshop at the Jam Factory... good stuff, pretty cheap too.

Limbs was alright. Not as good as In Rainbows for me, but still, Lotus Flower is a hell of a track. Only Thom Yorke could dance like that in a music video for 5 minutes and come out still a legend. David Byrne-esque.

I hate Triple J.

That I picked up on. There was a good article in the January Rolling Stone about Triple Js power in the Australian music industry actually...

Hurry Up, We're Dreaming isn't M83s best? I found it pretty damn good. Was pretty stoked when Midnight City was iTunes' video of the week. Have you heard Justice? Another French electro-new wave sync type group. Their first album was better than this year's.....There was a group from Fremantle, erm, San Cisco. They had a decent song called Awkward, surprised to see that hasn't charted. EDIT: Just as I type.....

Foster the People's a bit high. Way overplayed.....
