Things wrong with this ladder:
- Collingwood at 7th
- Essendon not in the top eight
- Geelong at 2nd
Collingwood in 7th and Adelaide in 5th. Really??
I don't get how people say we lack depth? Have you seen the players who are playing for our reserves?
Chance Bateman- very experienced premiership player
Cameron Bruce- very experienced
Kyle Cheney- has played very well win given the chance at the top level
Xavier Ellis- was one of our best players in the '08 flag
Clinton Young- very good player when up and running. Have you seen his left foot?
Tom Murphy- solid and mature backman who captained us last year when others were out
Jack Gunston- very classy player
Bradley Hill- brother of Stephen, very fast young player
Stephen Gilham- premiership fullback, very reliable
You can certainly question us for other things, but how can you say 'they lack the depth to win a premiership' when all these players are in the 2's?
Are you serious? Bruce and Bateman are now liabilities at AFL level; they're in the VFL because they are no longer up to it.
Xavier Ellis is nowhere near Hawthorn's best 22 and all signs point to him being somewhere else (either in the AFL or not) when this contract is up.
Kyle Cheney's best ever game may have been his debut with Melbourne in 2009. That's not a good sign.
I'll give you Clinton Young, good player who looks like he's still got plenty to offer.
Tom Murphy captained Hawthorn in Round 24 last year in a similar way to how the domestic Twenty-20 teams would get someone like Andrew Johns or Hamish McLachlan to captain them for a game. He's simply not that good (as if being unable to get a spot in Hawthorn's defence doesn't indicate that).
It would have to be a worry that Jack Gunston already finds himself in the VFL, considering the hype surrounding his recruitment.
Brad Hill has been a sub in one AFL game (after which he was immediately dropped) and was a second round pick last year. He hasn't proved anything yet.
And as for Gilham, I'm not sure 'reliable' is an adjective you should use for a player who has missed 39 AFL games in the past three years.
