Enrolled for Uni today. I didn't know you could select your class times straight away so I got in a week late...I thought I would end up getting, like, a shit timetable because of how late I was. Though, It actually turned out pretty good. I only go three times a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) including just the one class on Wednesday. Which means I kinda get a four day weekend every week. But, I'm beginning to get pretty nervous.
Nervous? Don't be. Have some positive tension, I suppose, but don't fret. "People are aware, but not that bothered."

I have a week left to enrol. You've actually kind of gotten me inspired. I'm usually always on top of these things as soon as they come out, so I might actually enrol now.

I get nervous pretty easily when I don't know what to expect. But I'm still excited at the same time. The nerves will go away once I first sit down and get into it.

I'm going to an introduction day on Wednesday where I'll get my Student ID, meet other students and faculty members, obtain advice about my degree, etc.

Could you get me up to speed with what I should expect on my first day (or even week)? My sister's a Uni Student but I've never really talked to her about it. She boards three hours away at Gatton (@Hand and SC_GC will probably know where that is) and is currently doing VET Science.

I think the nerves will just be not knowing what to expect. But you'll realise it's essentially just like high school. The progression is... it's like changing high schools, but with more gay dudes.

The introduction day will be a huge waste of time. You'll just walk around doing nothing and feeling awkward. Or I did. The line will be huge for the ID card and, at least at Curtin, I used it about two times to open some doors and to print things off. So you can wait a little, but your uni might be different. And if you're like me, you might like to get it out of the way.

As for what to expect... I don't really know. I can't remember a lot. I forget what degree you're doing, but everyone just has an introductory thing. You'll be given a course outline and a basic idea of the things you'll be doing. It's not at all overwhelming. If you're nervous about meeting people, remember that everyone else is on their own. Don't feel weird about striking up conversation with someone, you can usually tell just by looking at someone if you'd be mates with them or not. Try and find someone to talk to in each tute in the first two or three weeks, that way you'll feel comfortable and have a circle early on. Make sure you choose one chick per tute - you don't want to get one-itis.

Unless they live on campus, you'll have a hard time finding someone to go to the pub with. Australians are really embedded with their mates from high school. I mean, definitely try, but it's difficult. Playing footy for the uni club will help, those guys will always be up for a night out.

Oh, and you'll go to lectures for the first three weeks and then just never go. Unless there's a girl you like in there.

Its the day 1044 people arrived by boat 696 of which were convicts sent here for commiting crimes.

So its a day to celebrate we turned into a jail lol

Not for South Australians ;) We had no criminals :thumbsu:

Yeah, that's the only reason I'm nervous, it just feels like a big transition from High School and I'm expecting it to be much harder. But as you said, I'll realise it's not that different. I'm doing Bachelor of Computer Based Design. I think I'll go to the introduction just to get my ID so I don't have to worry about it later.

I thought lectures were...'compulsory'? Well not so much compulsory, but vital if you want to do well. So they're not too important?

I know a few people from my High School are going there, and a few people from the School down the road. So if I find it hard to meet someone in the first few weeks I can always just hang out with them between lecture's/tute's. Hopefully the Uni has an AFL club, and not just a League/Union club like most schools in my district. Thanks for the tips, man.

Haha.. um... well you'll soon realise that lectures aren't always hugely informative. People sit on their laptops (90% of people in Arts will have Macbook Pros...) and you just question what's the point in going? It's good to go, but I found it a lot better to just go home and look at the slides at home. They don't do name checks or anything like that, and although it won't harm your chance at getting better grades, not attending doesn't mean failure.

I mean, making mates is easy – and seeing them out of uni... it's not that hard. It's not like people completely shun you. But unless you grab a beer at the Tav/bar/pub/whatever your campus has, it just seems rare to take it out of the uni environment. I dunno.

Also, northern states Australians and their usage of "AFL" as a synonym for "Aussie Rules." Psh. Football is bigger and more than one competition. The AFL is a league, not a sport – despite what the actual AFL are trying to imply.

I also have to go through the arseh*le that is prior credit transfer. Fuarrrrrrr

Sorry, didn't see that. I'm not subscribed to that thread.
Technically, it shouldn't go in there because it's for 2013-14.

But anyway :p
What do you mean subscribed? In BigFooty, what does subscription mean?

Must've come from Victoria to try and cause trouble ;)

In my experience I found the tutorial/practical lessons much more valuable. The lecture provided me with the basic info I needed, but the tutorials really hammered it home.

lmach Are you doing the preperation courses? If so they are very likely to calm your nerves if you still have any. As far as I know the uni only has AFL nines, though I've never really looked into it.

Lucky I have a Macbook Pro then. I guess I'll just have to see how the lectures go and decide if I want to keep going to them when the time comes.

I'm sure I'll have no trouble making mates. I have like a four hour gap between a tute and a workshop on Thursday's so I'll probably use that time to go to the beach or study (the former most likely). The beach was the most inviting thing when choosing what Uni to apply for, well that and it's better than travelling to the city.

Yeah sorry, I never usually call it by that name. I usually just say footy but you may have thought I meant football (soccer) and yeah...

I don't really know all that much when it comes to Uni, as you can tell, so what's prior credit transfer?

Again, I have no idea what a preparation course is, haha. Care to feel me in? I'm not actually real nervous, but I will be in the morning on my first day.
