Just because he pulled off a game changing one %er in the 06 Grand Final, doesn't make him a player we missed.


I was 8 when he left Hawthorn, so I wasn't necessarily the best analyst as a child.

That was just an example. We wouldn't have one the flag if we didn't recruit Chick and Stenglein, they were both perfect for us and just what we needed - two hardened bodies, along with Rojo, to do the little things and help out Kerr, Judd and Cousins.

From all reports he was a great mentor to guys like Waters, Butler and Rosa, who were kids at the time.

We got Luke Brennan in return for Chick so it ended up working out pretty well for both parties.

Yes, maybe he is what you blokes- a side primed for a tilt at the premiership, needed at that point in time. He played a role in getting Hawthorn to the 2001 Prelim, but we overachieved that year, and had we beaten Essendon, would've got mauled by Brisbane. He may have thought there was a slim chance we'd challenge for the flag in 2002, but we weren't in it from the get-go that year. There was constant speculation throughout 2002 that he wasn't happy in Melbourne, and following his brother's death, he made it known that he wanted to go home. If I recall, we traded him for a first round draft pick.

West Coast won out on that deal.. He didn't play senior footy until 2005, and got delisted a year later.

Well I deferred uni for the semester, so the only work I have to do is learn about different types of Beer (doing a bar course). Tonight, a few mates/bids from my old school in Singapore are catching up at a house in Sandringham. I have glandular fever- can't drink. Still looking forward to it though.
