Something I posted on the tigers board you lot might find interesting (might even by one of you here).

So sitting in the members area and a bloke came and sat talking to some ladies wearing the T-SHIRT TOMMY shirt that Hardwick had given him yesterday, along with a bag full of lace up jumpers belonging to Roach and McKellar, so with that I thought great this is going amazing.

I'm guessing from the 70's? Looked real old, but at the same time in good condition.

If there are any photographers on here, I'm thinking about getting a nikon d3100. I haven't found a bad word on this camera, thoughts?

What are you getting it for? You probably wouldn't need anything very flashy for regular photo taking.

I want to do some photography for my year 12 viscom port folio next year. Long exposure shots, wide angle and macro shots.

Essentially, just a beginner DSLR where I can get some attachments, also a camera that will last the next 10-20 years.

long exposure is pretty common on stuff above point and shoots, wide angle and macro will/may require different lenses. those lenses can cost nearly as much or more than the cameras themselves so be careful and check before you buy. that said, nikon seems to be a pretty good brand for SLRs, so that won't be a problem. in the end it probably comes down to $$$. try "MIL" cameras too, like SLRs but with no mirrors. samsung, pentax, sony and the like are making them, they're halfway between your normal digicams and an SLR, with interchangeable lenses, but lower cost.

I don't know much when it comes to brands, but if you're looking for a good DSLR that'll last you 10+ years, you'll have to fork out a fair bit. Even then, you'll probably want to upgrade after a few years if you become a keen photographer. How much is that Nikon?

Saw a couple on Gumtree for $250-$400
