Looks like you're out of luck HB, the news is the season is likely to be cancelled as the players are sueing the league. Greedy bastards.
Absolutely despicable. Basketballers are able to buy significant shares in one of Europe's greatest soccer teams (LeBron James and Liverpool), yet their nation is in severe financial crippling... and they still want more.

Guy on SEN made a good point before. Out of all the players the ones most affected are the first-year kids just out of college. They haven't made a cent out of NBA and now they have a year taken out of their career.

Really disappointed. Thought we had a good shot with Stoudemire, Anthony and Billups.

Just went on to the GWS site and it turns out that now it is integrated into the actual 'Bigpond' site

Spew :thumbsd: Was only a matter of time. At least GWS, Gold Coast and Essendon have kept a different sort of layout to the standard AFL sites. However I was more fond of Essendon's 'independent' efforts before they just caved to the Bigpond branding.

Melbourne Heart much :p

Kane Williamson 284*, Dean Brownlie 171, Martin Guptill 195* and Tim Southee 7-37. Golden week for our national players in Plunket Shield cricket. Hope their form rolls on into December so we can rip shit up at the Gabba. Neil Wagner about to be eligible and speedster Adam Milne coming through, this line up could get me creaming myself....
Guptill
McCullum
Williamson
Taylor
Ryder
Brownlie
Young
Vettori
Southee
Wagner
Milne
Bracewell (12th)
Some serious talent in that side. Don't think Bracewell will ever develop to be a picked week in week out but would be a handy backup. I'm excited about this summer. Finally might be able to win some tests....

How many times have the Kiwis said that? And more to the point, how many times havve the kiwis won after saying that?

Should be a good series though. The one I'm worrying about is the India series. If the Saffers could do what they did to us, imagine what the Indians could do . It could be a very long series.

Here's something you guys might find interesting.

Just been having a look at old newspapers on Trove (trove.nla.gov.au) and found this piece dated 30 January 1915. I was looking for stuff about University departing, didn't find much (but I'm not researching too hard), but this one is interesting.

Apologies in advance for typos, as it's done by OCR (optical character recognition) and I CBF going through editing every single one.

FOOTBALL MANAGEMENT.

IMPORTANT QUESTIONS.

The meeting of the Victorian Football League yesterday evening presided over by Mr. Alex. McCracken, was in the nature of a gathering of a board of examiners to deal with a batch of examination papers. The retirement of the University club from the League had necesitated a reorganisatlon,

and the various club committees had been set a number of questions. Delegates met to receive the answers. The questions and answers were: -

1. Shall the number of clubs be nine or ten? The voting was Carlton, Fitzroy, South Melbourne, and Richmond in favour of ten, and Collingwood, St. Kilda, Geelong and Melbourne in favour of nine. The first three adding for this year only. The only club which had not answered was Essendon, and Mr. F. Reid, their delegate, found himself in the invidious position of having to decide the issue. He explained that if the district scheme were adopted his club would suffer by the inclusion of the club it was proposed to 'invite, and he would vote with the "nines," who thus won by 5 votes to 4.

2. If the latter, and, subject to the consent of the Association, which club shall be admitted. The answers to this question were not disclosed, and it was not necessary after question 1 had been answered as it was.

3. Are the clubs in favour of pooling all gate receipts, payment to players to be made from such? Richmond and Melbourne alone were in favour of pooling, and so the question was answered in the negative.

4. Are the clubs in favour of endeavouring to create one ruling body for football? Carlton and South Melbourne were the only dissentients, but it was evident that those who answered in the affirmative did so with the mental proviso, "Provided the League rules."

5. Are the clubs in favour of the scheme of district football as submitted lately? The dissentients were Collingwood and Essendon so the question
was answered in the affirmative.

An attempt has recently been made to hybridise Australian football so as to bring it into line with the Rugby League game, and a long letter was received on the subject from the New South Wales Rugby League, suggestlng alterations in the rules.

It was evident that delegates were not prepared to agree to the proposals, and Mr. John Gardiner asked what were the objects of the proposals. Did they emanate from the Australasian Football Council? "It is only waste of time," he said, "to discuss the matter. We have built up the Australian game from the very things they now propose. We killed that kind of football in Victoria 50 years ago."

Mr, Charles Brownlow, one ol the delegates to the council, however, calmed the fears of his colleagues by explaining that the Australasian Football Council did not father the suggestions. All they were prepared to recommend was the introduction of a bar 10ft. high, over which a goal must be kicked, throwing the ball backward, not forward; and tackling. These were three points in which the Australian game might be improved. They had no idea of injuring the Australian game.

Eventually the letter was received.

I wonder who the 10th team would have been, had Essendon voted for a 10-team competition? North Melbourne or Footscray would have been most likely.
